If you want to learn more about the Paleo food plan, Diane Sanfilippo has a helpful book called "Practical Paleo" that explains the process and provides many recipes. I think some of the reasoning is based on conjecture, but the diet actually does work well for many people. It is a gluten free diet, amongst other things, so considering that about 40% of the population has some degree of gluten sensitivity, one is hard pressed to really go wrong with paleo.

Yes, to do it right!


The Paleo diet tries to reproduce the diet of our distant ancestors, who ate wild fish and game, not grains etc. Grain-fed meat is not as healthy & the PD advises only grass-fed meat & wild fish. Our ancestors did not eat food with pesticides and GMO's and the only way to avoid those these days is to eat mostly organic- though some foods like onions are OK if not organic.  Diet Feeding Gluten Sugar

Good but not easy


In certain respects it makes a lot of sense- eating the same whole foods our distant ancestors ate. Many modern illnesses are related to sugars & many people have a hard time with dairy, gluten etc.But I don't think everyone needs to avoid all dairy, grains, legumes etc. all the time.You might try it & see how you feel & perhaps try some of the foods avoided on occasion to see how they affect you.

Reducton in cholesterol containing foods can lower cholesterol for some people. Also weight loss can be associated with improved lipids. HOWEVER< increased saturated fat intake can increase LDL cholesterol. This may , however be associated with decreased Triglycerides and increased HDL cholesterol along with lower NonHDL , ApoB and LDL particle number. Follow you numbers if you change your diet.
