See an eye doctor: There are several causes for elevated skin on the white of the eye. The most common condition is a cyst - a fluid-filled "sac" under the skin that can arise from a previous scratch on the eye, eye rubbing, allergies or other causes. Firm cysts can be present from birth and should be evaluated. The vast majority of these are benign, but it should be evaluated by an eye doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Stubborn father has a red eye, half the eye is red from eyeball to corner of eye towards the nose. Refuses doc, no vision issues. Going on 5 days?
He's probably right: If bright red (like blood), and no pain or other symptoms, it's probably a subconjunctival hemorrhage, i.e. a small broken blood vessel. It can happen from normal eye rubbing. It probably will clear up very soon, and quite suddenly. He'll probably wake up in the next couple of days with an entirely normal looking eye. In that case and if it doesn't happen repeatedly, he (and you) can rest easy. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Corneal ulcer: The iris is inside the eye and rarely changes except to dilate and contract. The cornea, the clear window at the front of the eye, can develop an ulcer spot (a collection of bacteria) which looks white on top of the iris, causes local redness in the sclera and pain. This can be serious and should be seen by her ophthalmologist. If she is a contact wearer, take them out right away. ...Read more
I put allergy eye drops in her eye & noticed a red vein with a dark spot at end, in both eyes. In same area. Drops made her eyes burn more.
Type of drop: Without an actual picture, it is hard to tell what the problem is. As for burning- when the eyes are irritated , even plain saline may burn. On the other hand, an antihistamine eye drop called Optivar tends to cause more burning than others. Try refrigerating the eye drop to see if it cuts down the sting. ...Read more
I'm 20yo. In pics I have red eye effect in both eyes but the pupil is more bright red in left eye and greater in diameter as compared to the right eye?
Anisocoria: Pupil size inequalities (anisocoria) requires an eye exam, and it should be done right away. There are important things to rule out to ensure that your pupils are normal. Flashes ; floaters: The clear gel that fills eyeball is normally attached to all parts of the inside of the eye. As we get older it can become more liquid (watery) and detaches from the back of the retina causing flashes ; floaters. This can indicate a retinal tear. As the retina detaches, change or loss in your side vision is the next symptom. You should see your eye doctor to check the retina. ...Read more

Pingueculum : These yellowish spots usually located at the 3 & 9 o'clock positions on the conjunctiva represent solar elastosis, changes that occur in the elastic tissues in the conj. The pediatrician referred my son to the opthalmologist because he has no red eye(like in pictures) when light is shined in his right eye. What causes?
Poor red reflex: Loss of red reflex in one or both eyes can be secondary to numerous issues. The most common causes are related to eye misalignment, cataract or other media opacty, or normal eye with abnormal reflex. Other more serious conditions can rarely cause this issue so i strongly recommend keeping the followup appointment with the ophthalmologist for a complete evaluation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hemorrhage: This is probably a seepage from a small vein in the conjunctiva which creates a very thin pool of blood in the normally closed space between the transparent conjunctiva and the underlying white sclera. It may increase in size due to spread (not due to further blood leakage) but will be absorbed in 3-10 days. If it persists after than see your ophthalmologist. ...Read more

My brother has a bright red squiggly line coming from the bottom of his eye towards his pupil (not yet touching). Eye isnt irritated, otherwise normal?
Blood vessel : Your description sounds like a conjunctival blood vessel that is a normal constituent of the eyes outer moist coat. They tend to become more visible with aging and ocular irritations, like dryness, allergies, infections and exposures. Unless this is a brand new suddenly developing or worsening observance, I would suggest monitoring for change. Artificial tears are a soothing solution for many. ...Read more
I'm an 18 year old male and have noticed a white flash that appears in the corner of my eyes when I move my eyes left or right in the dark.
flashes are common : Flashes floaters are a common occurrence without serious cause.
