Why when I have a bowel movement, my stool is very pale?

Your doctor can help explain this process more in detail. ...Read more

Opioids: I agree with the previous answer. I would like to add that when choosing a laxative, be sure to select one that is a stimulant laxative such as one that contains senna. Simply using a stool softener alone will normally give you results if you have been on opiates.

2-4 Days: Slowing of the bowels is common after abdominal surgery. Taking narcotic pain medication can add to this as well. I've been juicing for 2 months, now for the past 4 days I haven't had a complete solid bowel movement. Could something be wrong? Thanks

Probably not: If you are juicing and not eating solid food, you will not have daily bowel movements. Juicing is a way to get concentrated plant nutrients but there aren't many solids in juice. It wouldn't surprise me at all if your bowel movements were farther apart. I would only worry if your abdomen became distended and you started having abdominal pain. Otherwise, sounds normal for juicing Best wishes ...Read more

I haven't had an urge for a bowel movement in at least a week maybe two weeks. I've tried increasing my fiber but nothing. What should I do?

You are: CONSTIPATED! The formal definition of constipation is fewer than 3 bowel movements a week....as important as increasing fiber (5+ fruits/vegetables plus whole grains/cereals daily and? Fiber supplements), you need LOTS OF WATER...more than 8 glasses a day. And EXERCISE daily. You could next try laxatives, i.e. OTC MiraLax (polyethylene glycol) but at this point you should see Doc in case any tests are needed for eval ...Read more

Son is 5 weeks old & hasn't had a bowel movement in the past 2 days going on the 3rd day. Only eats breastmilk. What's wrong & how can I help him?

Likely ok: Your observation is not uncommon for breast fed babies. The definition of constipation is actually more related to the consistency of the stool. If his stools are soft or pasty he is ok- even if he does not have a bm every day. Early on infants stool very frequently, sometimes as much as after every feeding. That slows a bit as they age. If stools are too firm see your md for evaluation. ...Read more
