I believe i had class 1 malocclusion on my mandibular. Will rapid palatal expander help me?

Different problems: Class i refers to the front-to-back teeth and jaw relationship. If your lower jaw (mandible) is class i, it relates well to your upper jaw in the sagittal (front-to-back) plane. A rapid palatal expander is used to correct transverse (side-to-side) malrelationship by widening the upper jaw. Upper jaw widening in an adult requires the help of an oral surgeon and an orthodontist working together. ...Read more

Can crowded canine teeth be fixed with a palatal expander?

Can crowded canine teeth be fixed with a palatal expander?

That Depends: Palatal expanders are used when the upper jaw is small compared to the lower jaw. 4 weeks ago i got my palatal expander put on. In the past few days, i've started to grind my teeth at night. Why is this?

No More Status Quo: The muscles that control your bite have been interrupted by placing the teeth in a new position. You are trying to grind down the new interferences to get back to the original position. To help during the transition a temporary night or day guard can be used so you can grind on the appliance and not damage the teeth or cause muscle pain. This is a normal reaction to a new position. ...Read more

That's dangerous!: You need to get that off ASAP. You could have all kinds of problems hiding under there. About the cost, I would think any self respecting orthodontist would remove it at little or no charge once you sign a release that he/she is not responsible for any mishap in removing it. Be prepared, however, to go straight to your dentist to examine your teeth and gums once it is out. ...Read more

Can anyone explain a palate expander?

See below: Palatal expansion is used when a young patient has a narrow or constricted palate. The goal is to widen the palate, or "roof" of the mouth which should be slightly wider than the mandible to provide optimum occlusion, which is to say, so that your teeth fit together the way god designed them to be.
