Suspicious lump?: Regardless the cause... I would advise you to have the lumps on your neck examined by a primary care specialist (e.g. ENT, OFP). Any suspicious lump that does not resolve itself in 2-3 weeks should be evaluated.

Muscles move joints, stabilize the body, move air and food through the organs, act as valves for bladder, bowel and other organs. They control movement of the eyes. They help us express ourselves by changing the shape of our ...Read more

What to do about a painless hard lump on neck?

What to do about a painless hard lump on neck?

Have it checked: Lumps in the neck can be caused by a number of things ranging from from benign (like lymph nodes responding to an infection, cysts, or non-cancerous tumors) to serious things like cancer. Any neck lumps in someone who smokes are especially worrisome and should be checked by a physician. See your doctor so he/she can do an exam and recommend a specialist if needed (like an ENT doctor).

Neck lump: This probably represents an enlarged lymph node in response to a recent viral infection. If this does not resolve within a week or so you should see your physician.

Hello.: Hello. Cannot make a diagnosis through this venue. Although there can be swollen lymph nodes in that area; 1.5 inches in diameter would be much larger than expected. If it was a fatty tumor, would not expect it to have noticeable growth over ten days. If it is red, hot and tender, it could be an infected cyst. I agree with the doctor who examined you. If it becomes painful, red, hot, more swollen or there is swelling or heat in the surrounding area or you get an associated fever than you need to get it rechecked.

Large hard lump in middle of my back, directly in the center, between shoulder blades. No pain where lump is, muscle to the left, neck and shoulder ar?

See a doctor: How long have you had it? You should have it looked at by a doctor, but the most common thing there is lipoma, which we leave alone if it doesn‘t bother you. However, we never truly know what it is unless we remove it and do a biopsy. If someone tells me it has been present for years, I just leave it alone.

See your doctor: This could represent a swollen lymph node if it's closer to the neck. However, given that it's 1 cm and persists, this should be evaluated in person by a doctor. It might require x-ray imaging or even biopsy to ensure that it's benign and not representative of some kind of malignancy. Don't panic, just be cautious and have it evaluated soon.

Trigger point?: Could be a lymph node, an area of muscle fibers that contracted and formed a small mass (overuse or after trauma) and/or may represent a "knot" or trigger point that can respond to tissue massage. If not growing or and painless ok to observe;get it checked out if growing/painful or persists (to make sure it's not something serious like a malignant growth)

How to treat muscular lump on neck?

Needs evaluation: A lump may or may not be muscular. Lumps always need consideration for a biopsy because rarely this can be a tumor and I have even seen a muscle tumor due to the muscle swelling in the neck. Your physician will need to evaluate you and decide the best course.

Lump on neck lymph node, what is it?

Lump on neck lymph node, what is it?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well.

I have hard big lump on neck behind ear?

See Head & Neck doc.: Possible lymph node vs. Parotid gland mass other rare cause. Enlarged nodes from 1) normal response to inflammation 2) lymph node cancer 3) regional cancer moved to lymph node 4) weird infections. Parotid masses usuallu require surgery but 80% are benign. If this has been present for more than a few weeks please see a doc experienced in head and neck disease. Usually a Plastic Surgeon or ENT.

The lump on neck changes in size often. Thinking it's a trigger point? Thoughts?

It depends: A trigger point is the presence of tiny knots along a muscle fiber and when pressed may causes severe pain (jump sign). If you are saying a non painful lump on your neck and there is no limitation on your range of motion. It is unlikely to be a trigger point. Have it checked by your doctor.
