Lymph glands: Generalized enlargement of lymph nodes are seen in infectious mononucleosis, malignant blood dyscrasias and other infections. I'm not sure that they would be found on the rib cage itself or on the shin bone. I recommend an evaluation by a hematologist or an infectious disease specialist. A lymph node biopsy as well as other tests may be advised by the specialist. ...Read more

What to do if I have a painless lump on my leg what could it be?

What to do if I have a painless lump on my leg what could it be?

Different options: The leg has a lot of things in it both in the skin and below it. Sweat glands, hair follicles and skin cysts as well as lymph nodes, fatty tissue, tendons, vessels and other things. Is the lump growing, inflamed, painful, painless, draining, recurrent or constant, moveable or fixed...? Each of these (and many more) will provide your doc the answers as to what it is and what needs to be done. ...Read more

How to treat a lump in the lower portion of my leg after running. No pain associated with the lump?

Evaluate lump: From the description, it is not possible to tell if the lump is scar tissue in the muscle from a contusion or if it is arising from the bone. It is not uncommon to have benign bone lesions, such as osteochondroma, near the ends of long bones like the thigh bone, but without an x-ray, one would only be guessing and taking a chance of missing a serious tumor like cancer. ...Read more

Small lymph node: that is a typical area where a lymph node drained some infection or inflammation years ago and remained slightly enlarged after the malady resolved. Since it is not tender, is mobile, and has not changed over years all indicate it is benign. Should it start enlargening or you feel others near it or other areas of your body, consult with your PCP. During your next check-up, point it out to your doc ...Read more

I have a lump that is hard on my lower left leg on the back. It has gotten slightly bigger in about a 5 day period. No pain. No discoloring. I'm 23. ?

See physician: Should get this looked at soon. Painless lumps are usually not infections or other simple problems. Was this a lump that changed or was there nothing there 5 days ago? Could be a muscle hernia if it disappears when you lie down. In general, all hard painless lumps should be checked out to be sure that they are not abnormal tissue. ...Read more

When i put weight on my right leg , small lumps appear on a couple veins, and then go away when i'm not standing up. No pain or redness what is this?

Varicose Veins: You seem to be describing varicose veins which typically enlarge and bulge when standing and disappear and decompress when lying. Varicose veins are usually the result of malfunctioning valves in the saphenous system and, in someone your age, there may also be a genetic component. You should see a vein specialist for a venous evaluation. ...Read more

I got a big dark bruise on leg with lighter colored lump in the middle. Hasn't improved in 4 days. No pain except when touching the lump. What to do?

I got a big dark bruise on leg with lighter colored lump in the middle. Hasn't improved in 4 days. No pain except when touching the lump. What to do?

"Normal bruising": It's likely that you bumped into something but didn't pay it any mind. The lump is probably a small area of bleeding( hematoma). This area will slowly resolve with the bluish color turning yellowish and then disappearing. No specific treatment is needed. This type of bruising is common in the lower extremities. If you have frequent development of bruises you should see your physician. ...Read more
