Possible Lipoma: Lipomas are benign fatty tumors. They tend to feel firm or rubbery, are mobile, and are always non-tender. They do not tend to resolve on their own. Unlikely: Fat necrosis is one of the common causes of a nodule in the skin after trauma. Cancer usually does not develop within weeks, so that seems unlikely. Was it possible there was lump there before, and you only notice it now after the injury? Without an age, there are some other possibilities that could be seen: gout, arthritis, etc. ...Read more

I have a small lump under the skin on my forearm. It is soft, painless, and rolls around slightly when I run my hand over it. Should I be worried?
Skin Lesion: Hello Lori, There are a variety of benign skin conditions (lipomas, fibroademonas, sebaceous cysts, etc...) that may have a similar presentation to what you have described. However, I would still recommend that you seek the evaluation of a physician to determine if there is something more concerning. Hematomas: With injection drug use -there is a small trauma to the skin/soft tissues/veins each time. Sometimes there could be bleeding under the skin after an injection- that will form a small hematoma or blood bruise.
