Painless Lump On Big Toe
See a doctor!: Lumps and bumps cannot be accurately diagnosed by a brief written description. See a doctor in person, or consider a Healthtap Prime Consult with a doctor, where you may upload a picture and give a more detailed history. Or see if a Healthtap Concierge doctor or podiatrist can do a virtual consult about this. The most accurate diagnosis, though, is an in-person exam. ...Read more

On May 25th I sliced the tip of my big toe open. It's healed completely, but still hurts horribly when I "stub" it & there's a numb lump under my toe?
Yikes.: The tips of toes, and fingers for that matter, just don't like to be sliced. They are typically a painful heal and the injured pain receptors will take many months to calm down completely. The numb lump is either part of the initial injury or secondary due to an altered gait. Either way, it too, will more that likely pass. I speak from experience. ...Read more
In the space of a couple of hrs, I suddenly have a lump underneath my big toe. It's soft, not really painful but kinda large. I feel it when I walk?
Mysterious Lump.: Considering the time frame of a couple of hours and assuming that this lump has not been there all along, without being noticed, there are few possibilities. A leaking blood vessel, filling the available tissue space with fluid. This leak could be caused by a low grade trauma un noticed by at the time. A bite with insertion of foreign proteins could cause a quick lump to form. Ice it and see. ...Read more

A lump formed under my big toe. I rubbed it & it disappeared. I woke this morning to a dark purple bruise on the side of the toe. Is this worrisome?
Depends on progress: See how it continues healing, and if there's pain, then it's worrisome and you must see your PCP. Or if the bruise gets larger. You may need to elevate it, and put cool compresses on it for relief, and no fish oils, aspirin, Advil, (ibuprofen) Ibuprofen as it could potentially increase the bruising. Monitor it, and if it improves, you are probably OK. Time will tell shortly! ...Read more

I'm a little confuse:
With your question. You have two complaints yes? They sound like they are separate problems. I would recommend you see a foot doctor for both issues.
1) you should get a diagnosis for your "lumps".... Without seeing a picture it is hard to formulate a guess. 2) your big toe - the first mpj bears a lot of weight and xrays and in personal evaluation is important to rule out what is wrong. ...Read more

Can shoes cause lumps on feet? Have a painful and slightly bruised lump under my big toe but haven't hurt it.
I look at it this way. The slightly bruised lump was caused by:
1. Pressure on your toe with absolutely no involvement with the shoe.
2. Pressure on your toe caused by the toe and the shoe.
3. Pressure on the toe caused only by the shoe, having nothing to do with the toe's activity.
I'm betting on number 2. ...Read more
