Cold pack: If no idea how/why suddenly swollen, then might be infection, or gout (but odd for your age to be there). Can keep eye on it & cool compresses to see if swelling goes down. If does not, or if increases, should see dr / urgent care for examination to see what is going on. ...Read more

Hx:35F metacarpal shaft fx with k-wire ORIF, removed 2 weeks ago. Red swollen painful PIP knuckles since removal. PT said maybe arthritis. Possible?

Very unlikely.: Degenerative or wear and tear arthritis doesn't occur overnight, so it can't be linked to a procedure 2 weeks ago. Your surgeon needs to evaluate the pain, swelling and redness of the PIP joints promptly. ...Read more

Video triggerfinger?: It is possible you've developed the disease of young people in the 21st century (trigger finger caused by TOO MUCH video gaming). But to be sure there are other things that could cause pain and swelling in your finger so if after icing, Motrin for 3 days, and NO video games you're not better an examination would be in order.
