Painful Ribs When Coughing
Painful ribs when coughing/moving/sneezing. Roomate has bronchitis. Recently lost insurance. Feel sick all the time. Pain 9/10. What do I do?
Many possibilities: Chest pain can be associated with asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, heart disease, GERD and musculoskeletal inflammation, among other things. If you have wheezing it could be an asthma-like problem. If you've had ever and significant cough, it could be bronchitis or pneumonia. If it's painful to touch where you have the pain, it may just be chest wall inflammation and respond to Ibuprofen. ...Read more

broken rib: The symptoms you describe sounds like you have a broken rib. You should have an x-ray taken to confirm. Unfortunately, there is not a lot that can be done for a simple rib fracture except to wrap it tightly. It usually takes about six weeks to heal completely. Hi , for the last few weeks I have this pain on my right side at my lower ribs, tender to touch, very painful to cough and sneeze and laugh?
Tender to touch: Implies its in teh chest wall, and can be from the ribs or muscle. The lungs have no such pain nerves, and would not hurt to the touch. Rib/muscle pain like any bone or muscle can come from bruise, fractures, strains/tear, overuse etc., these tend to heal slowly, and other than pain meds and ice, we don't have much to offer. See your doc sooner if it persists or if you have a history of cancer. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have sharp pain on left upper rib, below breast. Had bronchitis last week. Localized pain - very painful to press on, breath deep, lay down, cough.
Broke my 10 rib right side 10 weeks ago, when I move or cough, sneeze & things rib pops out of place only had xray.sore &painful. What to do?
Ibuprofen: There is unfortunately not much one can do for a broken rib. They can be very painful and can take quite a bit of time to heal. I would suggest wearing an abdominal binder that extends up to the rib area, if you can tolerate it. This would serve to prevent the rib cage from over expanding, hopefully preventing repeated dislocation. This may inhibit your ability to take deep breaths, so you must be ...Read more

SLE: Dear Gabrielle, a cough and painful chest (you mention ribs), makes me concerned. Pleurisy (inflammation of the lining of the lung) can be a feature of active SLE. It also appears you have active skin manifestation, and arthritis. My suggestion is to get a chest xray and blood work through the nearest ER. They can then advise you further based on results. Best wishes, Nisha ...Read more
