Painful Pea Sized Lump In Armpit
Surgical excision: Most small lumps in the armpit, particularly if superficial, are sebaceous cysts due to a damaged hair follicle. Unless they become large and bothersome, most sebaceous cysts can be left alone. The most important thing is to have the lump examined by a qualified health care professional to make sure that it is indeed most likely a sebaceous cyst and not something of more concern. ...Read more

I have a lump under each armpit. One has gotten smaller and the other just showed up.they are painful to touch.they are small pea sized lumps and hard?
I'd Bet It's Sweat: May be small areas of infection.Sweat glands can get irritated or clogged then get bigger & painful. For some people it can become a big recurring problem so best to get it examined if,unlike the other side, it doesn't resolve in a few days.Until then, see if you are sensitive to your deodorant. My 14 year old athletic daughter has a pea sized lump that is painful underneath her armpit, any clues on what this might be and what I should do?
Hard to know?: Has she had any other symptoms? recent viral syndrome perhaps? One possibility is a "reactive" lymph node, or node housing white cells responding to some infection (probably very minor in nature, otherwise). Its painful nature and sudden appearance are consistent with this theory. Would expect resolution in a few days-couple weeks. If it does not, deserves medical evaluation. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I've a hard lump between my armpit/breast with a size between a pea and a marble for a year. It is now bigger and painful. Does this sound serious?
It is concerning...: This could be a lymph node or fluid collection in that area, but the fact that it's been there for that long and has now changed, it should be investigated right away. Doesn't mean there's something dire going on, but we really need to know with certainty at this point. ...Read more

Check with Doc: Breast masses are common. Most of the time they are benign. They should always be checked out with your doctor. The evaluation may involve a mammogram and an ultrasound as well as an examination. The findings that you described are commonly associated with cysts and can be affected by caffeine and also by shaving with lymph node changes in the breast or armpit. Cancer usually does not come and go. ...Read more
