Don't Goad That Node: Not usually. This happens, then they go away. The worst thing you can do is keep fooling with it. Estimate the size then leave it alone for at least one week, prefer- ably two, then check it again. Bigger? Smaller? Same? Less tender? More tender? Then decide if you need to see your doctor. Infection, shingles?: This sounds like a skin infection of some sort. It could be a bacterial infection (e.g. staph, strep, etc) but I'm more suspicious of herpes zoster (shingles). Salivary nodes: These bumps may be swollen salivary glands that can get blocked by calcium deposits and then become infected. Easily treated with augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) but if infection returns I would seek attention from an ENT to see if the salivary duct is blocked.
