Painful Lump Second Toe Joint Bunion
I woke up to a small painful lump/knot on the side of my second toe, near the joint. Throughout the day the toe became more painful and began to swell?
Night Moves..: It might be possible that you managed to traumatize you toe during your sleep. Not necessarily an acute, severely inflicted damage, but a more subtle low intensity type. To remove all doubt, within a day or two, have it evaluated by a specialist if it does not start resolving. ...Read more
Sudden hard lump over big toe joint. Lots of pain. Can't wear sneaker. Ball of foot/ankle/big toe pain. Hard time walking. What could it be?
Possible mass: It is possible that you have a soft tissue mass over your big toe joint. If there is a history of trauma to the area, it could be a ganlionic cyst. An x-ray is needed to rule out any changes in the joint that could contribute to this condition. ...Read more

Have a bunion whrre my big toe is pressing against my second toe. The tip of my second toe is numb. Could that be the cause?
Yes: Bunions and the deformity associated w/ them (hallux valgus) can press on the second toe and cause deformity (hammertoes, etc.). Pressure on the second toe digital nerve can certainly cause numbness you are experiencing. See your orthopedic surgeon or podiatrist for evaluation. Best of Luck! ...Read more

My big toe is crossing over my second toe. I got told this may be a bunion. I am only 17. I experience no pain from it. Do I need a surgery?
Think it Over.: Your description certainly sounds like a bunion to me. Whether or not you have it removed is entirely up to you. The usual reasons include pain, either with or without shoes. Some times the ability to even buy shoes is a problem. Believe it or not, but, people even have them removed because they don't like the way they look. My advice is to have them removed when you are ready and well informed. ...Read more
Would my overlapping second toe and severe bunions cause me to have knee pain and leg numbness of the same leg? I have no pre existing leg issues.
Pain not related: The only way that your knee pain would be related to your bunion and/or hammertoe, is the fact that they are making you walk differently due them being painful themselves (bunion/hammertoe). Consider them being indirectly related. The numbness is totally a different issue. That could be something originating from your back. Consult a professional. ...Read more
I'm 31 days post op. Bunion removal & pipj fusion of second toe, pin in second toe is a little loose & moves up/down turns sideways. Is this normal?
Not abnormal: It is not unusual for the pin, which is usually a "K-wire" to feel slightly loose. The "K-wire" is usually smooth and not threaded like a screw (though there are threaded K wires). As a result, it can feel loose. I encourage all post operative patients to seek the advice of the surgeon who performed the procedure (s). Your surgeon has the ability to evaluate your foot and the X-rays. ...Read more
Intermittent s pain in big toe, red hard lump, no heat, swelling, shoes don't affect it, worse at evening, feels like circulation cut off, bunion or gout?
Could be either: A painful, swollen big toe joint that occurs from time to time is likely to be gout or other type of arthritis. A permanent bump that is more painful after wearing shoes all day is more likely to be a bunion. By your description, bunion is more likely. See an orthopedic foot doctor or podiatrist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. ...Read more

Big toes painful as there quite big and is stiff left one is worse hurts when walking now second toe is bent to side and has lump on it on left foot?
English Bunion: You have given a pretty good description of a typical bunion deformity of the great toes. The great toe is also shifting laterally or toward the little toe causing a subsequent hammering of the second toe. The stiffness is due to the excessive bone growth around the joint which not only causes pain but can also change the way you walk. All flannel aside, you need to have it evaluated for a fix. ...Read more

Right toe is bent inwards touching my second toe, what feels like a pain full lump or spot under the skin at the side any suggestions please Painful?
Drifting Toe.: Your description sounds like a consequence of a specific variant in "bunion" deformities. The drifting of the great toe, to the right, is being interfered with by the more stable second toe. This bumping together is causing an inflammatory pain. Most likely this is a result of genetics, foot type, shoes, socks and lifestyle. A foot specialist could offer some time tested treatment alternatives. ...Read more

Big toe pain (quality: warm to touch, pain in joint). Possibly gout. However, uric acid levels are always in normal range. What else could it be?
Walks like a duck?: Don't be too anxious to discount possible gout. There is more to it than having a elevated uric acid. You need to look at the quality of your diet and life style, genetics, age, body type and degree of swelling, heat and pain. The time tested method of securing the diagnosis of gout is evaluation of the joint fluid. To remove all doubt, have your toe evaluated by a specialist. ...Read more

I am experiencing big toe pain (quality: warm to touch, pain in joint). The following also describe me: Joint swelling, Foot pain, Swollen foot, and Difficulty walking. What should I do?
Urgent care: Pain, swelling, and warmth point to an inflammatory cause rather than a mechanical cause such as osteoarthrosis or ill-fitting shoes. Gout is high on the list of diagnoses but unusual at age 21. What concerns me are the possibilities of infection or fracture. I would seek help urgently through your primary care physician or urgent care. ...Read more
I have a lump on my second toe on top of the uppermost knuckle no pain. Should I have it looked at?
Yes: Any lump should be examined. It may be something as simple as a corn, wart. Mucoid cyst etc. But, a lump is not normal and since we can't see it - have it checked out. It will give you peace of mind. A podiatrist would be a good doc to see for this. ...Read more

Yes just noticed that there is a hard lump on inside back of my second toe on my left foot. It is by the knuckle. What could it be & how to fix it?
Soft Corn: This is the effect of narrow footwear on a bony excrescence on the toe. A soft spacer might help and wider shoes would help. Podiatrists and a some orthopedists will grind or bite of the offending bone. I would of for the spacer an better fitting shoes. ...Read more
The second joint on my second toe hurts so bad when it's touched. It doesn't look red or swollen but cant bend all the way. Run regularly but no trauma.
Painful toe: Joggers sometimes get 'stress' fractures (though they are relatively longer bones of the foot). Get an X-ray. Other possibility includes tendinitis. If X-ray shows no fracture, try anti inflammatory medicine (600-800 mg Ibuprofen 3 times a ay with food) for a few days. If response is not satisfactory, see your physician. ...Read more

My big toe is turning in towards the 2nd toe but there is no bump on the side or pain. Is this a bunion?
Hallux valgus: The term for the big toe leaning toward the second is hallux valgus. If pain arises, surgery is often recommended. ...Read more

About the bump on side of the toe, it isn't on the side of the foot like a bunion, it's actually on the toe?
Toe Bump.: There are only so many things it can possibly be. First of all, it is either involves soft tissue, bone or both. Soft tissue bumps could be things like bursa, synovial cyst or similar structures. Bone bump could be enlargement of the base of the distal toe bone, or enlargement of the head of the proximal toe bone. The whole bump structure could be as a result of arthritis secondary to trauma. ...Read more
