MUST see M.D.!!: It could be a harmless skin lesion, like an epidermal inclusion cyst or lipoma (benign fatty tumor)... But it could also be a "sentinel node" which might be an early manifestation of lymphoma. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck from infection usually come up quickly and are tender. Most lumps, benign: Don't start worrying. The majority of small bumps on your head would be benign (not cancer). Lumps that can be tender are cysts, lymph nodes and less likely lipomas. Likely lymph node: There are chains of lymph nodes along the neck including at the base of the skull. They can become enlarged with any infection on the scalp, face, or ears... Often they can persist for a while after the infection resolves. If it is still there the next time you see your pediatrician, ask him/her to take a look at it, but most likely it will resolve over the next few weeks. ...Read more

Need to see: It's going to be really hard to answer this question without seeing the lesion you're talking about but it could be an infected cyst that needs treatment with antibiotics and possibly even drainage.It could also possibly be a very enlarged lymph node which become enlarged when there is some other infection in the area which still leads me to believe you need to be seen by your doc ASAP ...Read more
