Skin infection: What you describe is either a infected skin cyst or hair follicle. These are painful. Hot compresses applied to the area may soften the skin and bring the infection to the surface, allowing drainage to occur with relief of pain. If this does not work, then seek a doctor to assess the area and provide treatment. ...Read more

Hi I have a lump about the size of the Palm of your hand that lodges between my shoulder blade area it can move if manipulated till, painful tender?

See a doctor: That's a pretty good sized lump on your back. I would recommend getting it seen by a doctor - impossible to really say what it is, but it DOES need to be seen to make sure it is not anything serious. Sometimes cysts or lipomas can appear on the back, but can only make that call after a proper exam. ...Read more

Firm lump on shoulder blade that does not move. Been there for about two yrs, recently growing and increased discomfort. Fairly certain not a lipoma.

I have a lump on my left shoulder blade, what should I do?

See PCP: 'lumps' on shoulder blades could be several things but what u should do is see your physician. Fatty benign tumors (lipomas) are common here. If u fell, an organizing hematoma may be forming. Osteochondromas are not uncommon on the scapula. All this is speculation; see your pcp w/ possible referral to orthopedist. Best of luck! ...Read more

Sure, check it out.: In a young person such as yourself, it's most likely nothing serious, like a lipoma (benign fatty mass). But you don't need to be bothered by it. Have it checked out and removed. Good luck! ...Read more

Saturday fell off bike, was okay. Sunday lower back went. Noticed lump around shoulder blade, doesn't hurt. Thur, back improving but lump still there?

Few possibilites: Certainly a bruise would take time to fully develop, and even longer to go away. If there is a break in the skin, an infection or some of the road can be in the lump (very doubtful if there was no break in the skin).
Warm compresses help bruises to resolve ...Read more

Does alipoma pinch? I have a lump on my back shoulder blade. I feel a pinches. Like a contractions.

Yes it can: A lipoma is a benign fatty tumor and fairly common. It usually causes no symptoms but then they grow large or are on an area of skin where there is stretching, like the shoulder, it can cause symptoms like pinching or pressure, especially when moving or lying on it. See a surgeon if this bothers you - it can be removed as a same day surgery or even office procedure. ...Read more

Have a small pea-sized lump on my back between L. shoulder blade & spine. Hard. No discharge or pain. No color. Has remained same size for about 2 yrs.

Cyst or not: Most commonly this would be a "lipoma", which is a lump of abnormal fat, or a sebaceous cyst, which is kind of chronic inflammation from old trauma. An abscess could also be a cause. If not enlarging and not painful, red or draining, safe to watch. Treatment is surgery to remove it, which is low risk, minor, and outpatient procedure. ...Read more

Bone repair: My first thought would be that the kid had a localized trauma to that site and scuffed the bone. It would tend to lay down a bony deposit at the site that would feel prominent. Have lump of scar tissue size of marble at shoulder blade since shoulder injury 2 years ago. No pain to touch. Cause problem? Need to remove? How?

Have this checked: It is my advice that you have this lump checked out. It may very well be benign. However cancer can develop on scar tissue and this can generally be cured if treated properly. I suggest having a biopsy taken of the tissue for a pathological exam. Please make an appointment at a clinic to begin to follow this up. ...Read more
