I have a medium to small lump right above the left side of my ankle on my left leg. It is not painful at all. Any ideas of what it is?

I have a medium: It could be a cyst which is filled with fluid and can happen after an injury or almost jello type tissue if you have had it for a while or a lipoma, that consists of fatty tissue , both cause no problems. However, if the lump is getting bigger or is not going away, best to see a podiatrist or a surgeon , get an ultrasound and/or an MRI to find exactly what it is. ...Read more

Probably not serious: It is most likely either a ganglion cyst or a lipoma if it grows, or becomes symptomatic you should be seen. If it is a ganglion, it can be aspirated to both confirm the diagnosis and remove it. ...Read more

Lump in leg: Tash. The differential diagnosis of these 2 lumps appearing is quite large. If they appeared spontaneously and show no signs of acute inflammation, they could be benign lipomas depending on their position or something more serious depending on appearance. First noticed reasonably large, hard lump on lower leg after injury (gouge taken out of leg) 7 years later, it's still there. Could this be a problem?

First noticed reasonably large, hard lump on lower leg after injury (gouge taken out of leg) 7 years later, it's still there. Could this be a problem?

Not necessarily: It's difficult to say based on the info you provided. As is the lump in the deep muscle, superficial skin or bone. If it's in the bone, it could be related to a bone callus. If its the deeper muscle, it could be myositis ossificans, which is a calcium deposit in the muscle after truama. Skin wise, that could be a hypertrophic amongst other things. Usually are only problems if create pain. ...Read more

Scar tissue: Most likely the hard lump is scar tissue. As the wound heals, scar tissue forms and it is more dense and feels harder than normal skin. It would be unlikely this far out to have a wound infection, but If there is increased redness, swelling, pain or red streaks, I suggest being seen. I hope this helps. ...Read more
