Perineal lump: I am not clear where the lump is - but I am suspicious of prostate area and prostatitis, given symptoms. I had Rocephin (ceftriaxone) injected into buttocks area yesterday. I have 2 lumps that are painful. Is the medication stuck? I'm supposed to take Keflex now!

Not stuck: Whenever you inject antibiotics you have the potential to get a little swelling in the area. Sometimes you have some bleeding which will form a hematoma and be hard. This is not like a blood clot in veins and is rarely more than uncomfortable. Over time the clotted blood will become liquid again and be absorbed. May or may not have visible bruise. I had two shots of Rocephin (ceftriaxone) above each of my hips near my buttocks. I still have two painful NOT red lumps deeply embedded. What can I do to heal it?

Rocephin (ceftriaxone): This antibiotic is given by deep intramuscular injection or IV. When given by injection it goes in the deep muscles usually of the buttocks. There it may cause localized bleeding of the muscle causing the lumps you feel. These are usually absorbed by the body. Stretching helps: Avoid sitting with wallet in back pocket. May be a very tight muscle or pinched nerve. Stretching helps. Sometimes a heel lift is required.
