Painful Enlarged Lymph Nodes
My son is coughing and has enlarged lymph nodes. Two small ones on each side of his neck (for over 8 weeks) and a new one the size of a cherry pit.
I've had painful enlarged lymph nodes in my neck and over my mastoid bone for over a year. My doctor is trying to evaluate me. Possible causes though?
Found a small painful enlarged lymph node near my breast/under my armpit. Apart from things like cancer what else could it be?

Enlarged painful lymph nodes in neck shoulder and ear pain for about 5 days. This morning i had one suddenly pop up under my chin close to my neck.
I have history of painless enlarged lymph nodes 3.2 cm, fna neg non-hodgkin 's (7/09). Past week i've had painful thyroid/local area. Any correlation?
Possibly: Where was your enlarged node? 3.2 cm is quite large and concerns me. I know the fna was negative but i would suggest seeing a surgeon and removing the node, provided its easy to get to it. If its deep and difficult to reach i would suggest a ct guided core needle biopsy performed by an interventional radiologist. No idea if this node has any relation to your thyroid. ...Read more
Are enlarged lymph nodes always painful when caused by infection? Can they be hard, or are they soft w/infection? Ddx of hard, enlarged node by ear?
Lymph nodes: If swollen lymph node is related to an acute infection, it will be painful. However in chronic infections, like tuberculosis, syphillis-it can be painless. The consistency varies- it could be rubbery, firm- but when abscess starts to develop/ contains pus- the swollen lymph gland can be soft and fluctuant. The cause for enlarged lymph nodes, swelling the l/side of the head and form blisters dries in a honey color. Very painful. Ct scan done.
