Sched appt w/ Dr: Chest pains can be caused by many things besides the heart. Ekg's can miss problems if it is intermittent. You should schedule a real appointment with a doctor. The emergency room is not the place to go to figure out a chronic problem. Their job is to take care of acute problems (emergencies). You need someone who can follow up and get a detailed and accurate picture of what's going on. ...Read more

I have chronic low back pain went to ER and was given an injection of toradol which only helped for two days why?

I have chronic low back pain went to ER and was given an injection of toradol which only helped for two days why?

Potent: Anti-inflammatory injection typically gives relief for a day or two. If inflammation was reduced then likely you don't need further evaluation. Since your pain returned it suggests that either the inflammation was a lot or you created more inflammation since there is an injury that needs to be defined. See a pain/spine specialist to evaluate this further. ...Read more

Mystery Back Pain: The most common causes of left upper back pain are muscle and ligament strain, shoulder injury, and muscle spasms. The majority of left upper back pain cases are from overuse. Due to the many factors that could contribute to back pain, a trained physician is required to diagnose the exact cause. It sounds like you had a thorough work up, but no cause was found. Syringomyelia: An incidental or asymptomatic syrinx is a common finding on MRI studies. They can be very difficult to see on a ct scan and may not be visible but still present. Comparing a prior MRI study with a current one is the best way to gauge the status of the syrinx. ...Read more

I am 7 weeks pregnant, had slight brown spotting and back pain, went to ER on Weds (HX of miscarriages). Ultra sou8nd shows everything is fine no sig?

What's the question?: What does the ultrasound actually show? And blood tests? And exam? If they show that the gestational sac/fetal pole is present and cervix is closed without evidence of inevitable miscarriage, and you haven't bled since, there are probably no long-term significance to your pregnancy (is that what you are asking for by "sig"?) ...Read more

Right pelvic pain- went to ER nothing found with a pelvic exam. Just a low white cell count and pain on right side. They are treating it as PID but just is on the ovary side. Please help. I?

Check with OBGYN: Treating it as pid does not mean you have pid. They are treating you for it just in case - a positive culture for infection is the only way to make that diagnosis. In the meantime, did they do an ultrasound? Could be a cyst, or kidney stone, or even appendix.

Check with your obgyn or pcp and good luck. ...Read more

Hard lump under right rib cage pain up to shoulder blade, shooting bone pain. Went to ER they didn't know, have PCP apt in Aug. What could this be???

Could be liver or GB: The area under your right rib margin is home to your liver as well as your Gall Bladder. It is possible you have a problem there. I might suggest getting a liver/biliary ultrasound if they did not do that in the ER. Probably would NOT wait for a month however. ...Read more

Having constant abdominal pain. Went to ER. And I have a high white cell and liver enzyme count. I had x-rays cat scan blood work /urinalysis -no answer?

Ultrasound?: (right upper) abdominal pain, elevated liver enzymes & white count are suggestive of a gallbladder attack. Ct scans are pretty comprehensive tests but an ultrasound is actually better for seeing gallstones. Regardless of the cause, if your pain is constant, you need medical follow-up sooner rather than later. Hope you feel better. ...Read more

My mom called me saying she was having chest pains. She took her nitro and pain went away. Refused ER, scheduled appt w/cardiologist next week. Safe?

Probably: It is of concern that your mom had chest pain but, given that she has nitro, it sounds like this is a chronic problem that has been evaluated. Since it went away with nitro her condition seems stable. It would have been crucial to go to the ER if it did not go away with nitro, but since it did she is probably fine. It is reasonable for her to see her cardiologist and should be safe to wait. ...Read more
