Is it possible for my humerus to still break down further after having a plate and 5 screws put in 10 yrs ago?
I broke my humerus 13 months ago. I got a plate with 8 screws.I can do sports again. Should i remove the plate or not?
Best 2 ask Ur ortho: It really should b answered by ur surgeon. A lot depend on the location of the fx, what sport u want 2 return 2, the quality of the healing. Usually @ 13 mos the bone is well healed in 1 ur age. The? Is should u have the hardware removed. It is just along for the ride if well healed. Ask ur orto about these 2 questions he/her is better informed about ur situation ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a rod and screws in my humerus bone. Surgery was a month ago. I am still in excruciating pain. I am a body builder. Will i ever lift again?
Yes: Yes! athletes do well and always get frustrated with the rate of healing. (its probably a positive prognostic sign) keep working with your pt and accept that it will always hurt a bit, but you will most likely lift again. It can take a year for full recovery. ...Read more
I had a plate and screws put in my left arm to fix a humerus break 6 weeks ago but one of the screws has come loose. I have a appointment with my surgeon but I was wondering your opinion on picking up my 13lb son still?
Would avoid til xray: I would avoid any strenuous activities with the arm until you get an exam and xray. It is not uncommon for a screw to back out the question is the fracture healing or are there other issues i would see your surgeon asap to make sure everything else is ok because chances are that the fracture is not fully healed in 6 weeks. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
28yrs, fell off mtb & broke my humerus mid shaft. Brace for a day then installed plate with 6 screws. How long recovery? Arm swollen is normal?
Varies: How do you define recovery? Mid humeral fractures typically heal in 6-12 weeks. The plate and screws may allow for a more rapid recovery than if treated without surgery. Many patients need some rehab/therapy later in the recovery process. Expect to return to most activities of daily living normally in 2-3 months and add 1-2 months for a return to sports, etc. Arm swelling is typical for most. ...Read more
I am 22, my humerus bone is fractured and I have done surgery on18 april, 2014. The doctor installed a plate with 8 screws. When will this be healed?
I had surgery on a dismal humerus fracture three months ago. On the X-ray there's a screw broken, and my arm moves around in a circular motion, is this normal.
Not normal: Distal humerus fractures are often difficult to manage, fix and heal. It sounds like you may be describing a delayed union or failure of fixation (screw breakage). You need to be re-evaluated by your surgeon to make sure everything is healing appropriately ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
