Many possibilities: I suspect you're referring to your abdomen (portion of body), not your stomach which is an organ inside the abdominal cavity. Spleen is up there. Transverse colon meets descending colon in that part of abdomen. Stomach & pancreas are more towards midline. Of course, pneumonia sitting on diaphragm could also be painful. Have a pain on my left upper side by my rib cage. It came on all of a sudden last night Any movement makes the pain worse and cant lay on that side?
Something cause the muscle between your ribs to go into spasm, it will feel like you broke a rib. Pain get worst with movement and deep breathing.
Use a heat pad on the painful area and take ibuprofen600-800 mg after eating hopefully that will ease it up if not you might to see your PCP for more evaluation and possible more medicine ...Read more

Cp: Despite your young age every time we hear exertional chest pain we think angina, however exertional CP can be encountered for many other reasons sometimes. My recommendation would be to tell your doctor right away. If you just started and exercise program your muscles can be sore and they can cause pain.
