Sprained ankle on the leg that has lymphedema, it's been a year and still not healed. Right side of foot bothers me when I walk. Will it ever heal?

Ankle Sprain Healing: Statistically, 10% of all ankle sprains have some residual problem after one year. This can be muscle weakness, ligament instability, missed bone injuries, stiffness, etc. Most of these problems are minor, but not if you are getting some disability. Have it checked out by a podiatrist or orthopedist. Hopefully, the cure is quite simple. Dr rich blake. ...Read more

There : There isn't a lot of medical knowledge on stingray injuries, and even less on the long-term effect, years later. I'm not surprised you have not found anyone who feels qualified in the diagnosis and treatment of your daughter's problem. Very few doctors get much experience with this sort of thing.

Before I try to give you some insight into what might be going on here, let me first qualify my answer by saying I have never personally seen anyone with a stingray injury, so my thoughts are educated guesses, but I hope they will help somewhat.

There are a few possibilities going on with your daughter's foot. There might still be a small piece of a barb still in her foot. This very well might not show up on x-ray, and you might need an MRI with very small cuts (2 mm) to see this. Needless to say, if a piece of a barb is still inside, it needs to come out.

The soft tissue infection that ensued could have found its way to bone, giving your daughter a bone infection. This could have occurred if the antibiotics were stopped prematurely, as you mentioned she was only taking antibiotics for 5 days and they had to be stopped. An MRI would also show if the bone is infected.

Finally, the injury itself could have injured a nerve, leaving her with a chronic neuritis, or inflammation of the injured nerve. A series of local anesthesia injections to the nerve may help to reduce the neuritis, and this can be combined with a little steroid to reduce the inflammation.

There was an interesting article on stingray injuries written by a podiatrist in texas, al kline, dpm. I'm attaching the link. Considering how few doctors have knowledge of these kinds of injuries, it might not be that ridiculous an idea to take a trip to texas from arizona to see someone who has knowledge and experience in this kind of injury.

Good luck. I wish I were able to give you a better answer. I hope your daughter feels better. ...Read more

Numbness on right pinky toe and side of foot up until ankle bone. No pain at all or other discomfort. Been this way for 2 days. What do I do?

Numbness on right pinky toe and side of foot up until ankle bone. No pain at all or other discomfort. Been this way for 2 days. What do I do?

Nerve irritation.: The area you are describing seems to be describing a specific nerve route. The problem might involve irritation of a nerve in the foot. Less possibly, would involve irritation of a nerve exiting the spine in the back area. With no history of injury, look at your shoes and see if there is a possibility of the one being too tight. To remove all doubt, have the problem evaluated by a specialist. ...Read more

My ankle has been swollen on both side of foot for 2 months? Take ibuprofen/rest to help with swelling, but keeps swelling up. What can/should I do?

My ankle has been swollen on both side of foot for 2 months? Take ibuprofen/rest to help with swelling, but keeps swelling up. What can/should I do?

Time to Think.: Ibuprofen is often used to minimize and often mask the symptoms of inflammation. This can give the false security that the issue has been handled correctly. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The anti-inflammatory effects of ibuprofen can allow the condition to escalate, leaving you without the appropriate protective symptoms. You need to be evaluated by a physician to isolate the cause. ...Read more

I'm having ankle pain and no injury. My foot is turning when I walk and I'm walking on side of foot. Do I see a gp, orthopedist, or podiatrist.

Ankle Pain: Sorry to hear that. Depending on insurance, you'll have to check whether you need a referral to see a specialist. Seeing your general practitioner/pcp/primary is always a good place to start. They will then help you determine whether to see an orthopedist or podiatrist. Good luck, I hope this helped. ...Read more

I'm having symptoms of burning, stabbing pain, electric shocks, extreme sensitivity/pain in toes, top&side of foot/ankle lt foot after l5/s1 fusion.

Depends: If these symptoms were there prior or even after your back surgery, you should see your back surgeon and consult. These are obvious nerve symptoms and despite your back symptoms may be resolved, more distal symptoms may persist. If these symptoms are new, they may be local (tarsal tunnel syndrome-look it up) or yet originate from your back. ...Read more

6 weeks ago fell and hurt ankle (medial side). Went to ER they said sprain. Having pain directly on bones on inside side of foot and ankle. Fracture?

Get an x-ray: Twisting ones’ ankle can lead to a sprained ankle. Often times, this may result in ligament or tendon injuries which may lead to ankle swelling, pain, and possibly instability. An x-ray of the foot and ankle will be able to assist in differentiating a sprain from a fracture. ...Read more
