Bursitis: "Lower knee" could be just below the knee and a little toward the center (medial). With minor swelling that would be a pes anserine (duck foot) bursitis where 3 muscles insert. Ice or a cortisone shot cure. Below the knee in the middle would be a patellar tendonitis with similar treatment. Pain inside the knee joint is more complicated and warrants a doc visit.
