Get treated: What you are describing is possibly neuropathy caused by nerve damage from the diabetes. If he was diagnosed many years ago he should get treated. The disease is not going to go away by itself. He waits long enough and the effects will be permanent and spread upward. He's playing with fire by not getting this treated.
