Several: possibilities. Most worrisome would be a small bowel obstruction (they wouldn't have sent you home). More likely are either a viral intestinal infection or an ileus (temporary paralysis of the bowel muscles), either of which could cause your symptoms. Fortunately, both will go away on their own. Very likely: In adults gastroesophageal reflux does not usually completely disappear. Diet can exacerbate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux. Diet change may help with decreased total fat intake, avoiding large meals, alcohol, acidy food, chocolate, etc. Sometimes dairy products such as yogurt and milk help; may have to resume omeprazole.
