Pain in upper right abdominal? What is there?

Pain in upper right abdominal? What is there?

RUQ anatomy: Anatomically, the right upper quadrant (RUQ) of the abdomen includes: liver, gallbladder, pancreatic head, bile ducts and ampulla, c-loop of the duodenum, stomach antrum and pylorus, the hepatic flexure of the colon. Don't forget the diaphragm and lower chest are pretty close by. The abdominal musculature, ribs, and skin can all contribute as well to localizing RUQ pain. An exam is appropriate.

What would cause a burning type of pain, in upper right abdominal area, just under the breastbone? Thanks!

What would cause a burning type of pain, in upper right abdominal area, just under the breastbone? Thanks!

Epigastric pain: Burning pain in the upper middle abdomen (epigastric pain) is often caused by gastritis or GERD. Can also be caused by a peptic ulcer, pancreatitis and other abdominal conditions. If it is more than mild or does not go away with a few days of antacid medication (eg, omeprazole, ranitidine) please see a doctor for evaluation.

21 wks pregnant and keep getting really bad pain in upper right abdominal area near ribs and excess thirst. Is this normal?

Right upper quadrant: Gallbladder attacks can be precipitated by pregnancy, at least you are not in your 3rd trimester then even more possibilities exist for your pain, best to have an ultrasound and liver blood test performed

Sharp pain in upper right abdominal area and side when having bowel movements at times. What causes this?

Sharp pain in upper right abdominal area and side when having bowel movements at times. What causes this?

Unclear: Abdominal pain is not very typical although you provided a lot of detai. Pain with bowel movements suggests intestinal contractions are the cause. Pain in right upper quadrant on other hand sound like liver or gallbladder. You need more history and examination, and testing to make sense of your pains. Need to see a doc for that one.

I remember lifting something very heavy and have had a dull pain in my upper right abdominal area ever sense. What might this be? What should I do?

I remember lifting something very heavy and have had a dull pain in my upper right abdominal area ever sense. What might this be? What should I do?

Strain: A strain of the abdominal muscles in that area could explain the continuing discomfort and should heal in about 7-10 days. More prolonged discomfort in that area, especially with associated tenderness, would have to be evaluated by a physician or surgeon to check for gall bladder or liver disorders. Appropriate tests would be ordered.

I have pain upper right abdominal in chest from last month, I have clear my all blood report, x ray, sonography?

I have pain upper right abdominal in chest from last month, I have clear my all blood report, x ray, sonography?

Unsure: With limited information - but labs, ultrasound and xrays, the likely culprit is more muscular or cartilage based. There is also the phenomenon of " gallbladder insufficiency" which requires more specialized testing such as a hida scan - to look for the function of the gallbladder, not just for gallstones. If it does not resolve - please ask for a second opinion. ..

Fluttering feeling in right abdomen. Pain upper right. Abdominal U/S nml, CBC cmp normal. Endoscopy nml. Help?

Fluttering feeling in right abdomen. Pain upper right. Abdominal U/S nml, CBC cmp normal. Endoscopy nml. Help?

Its an "unusual": Presentation but this could be from irritation of a nerve innervating the upper abdomen and coming from a pinched nerve in your lower THORACIC spine! Any upper back pain???? Just a thought since the major intra-abdominal reasons appear "ruled out" Hope this helps! Dr Z

Worrisome: I suggest an abdominal ultrasound and examination to rule out gallbladder disease and I suggest that you do this ASAP.

Gall bladder? Ulcer?: Relation to activity? Certain type of food? Stool discoloration? Predictable pattern over the past wk? If it has not improved or actually worsened the past wk, you should see a doctor soon.

Mid back pain/tightness, right upper quad abdominal pain/tightness, some stomach cramping and fatigue. What could be wrong?

Mid back pain/tightness, right upper quad abdominal pain/tightness, some stomach cramping and fatigue. What could be wrong?

Many things: Right upper abdominal pain is usually due to gallbladder condition. Tightness could be from obstruction of the bile duct due to a gallstone. The abdominal cramping/fatigue could be due to complications from the above. You need medical care.

I have lower abdominal pain and constant upper abdominal pain right at the top of my rib cage. Plus the bridge of my nose feels like its buzzing?

See your doctor: This is a problem that necessitates a face-to-face meeting with your doctor. This will allow him/her to examine you, ask specific questions. And possibly order tests to find out what's wrong and what to do to help you.

What are the causes of upper right abdominal pain?

What are the causes of upper right abdominal pain?

See your doctor: Abdominal pain can be caused by way too many things to advise you on what to do for your present condition. You need to see your doctor who will take a complete history and perform a physical exam before recommending any treatment plans. RUQ pain may be related to your liver, duodenum or gallbladder, among other possibilities, and you may need testing to determine what is causing your pain.

Feeling inflammation in Abdomen (Right Upper Quadrant). What are the possible causes?

Gallbladder?: This might be associated with gallstones and colic associated with them especially if you are having significant pain after eating. There are other reasons for your symptoms like gastritis, liver problems or lesions, constipation, among others. Try to get evaluated with a provider that can check your abdominal area and possibly order tests. If you experience severe pain, vomiting, fever go to ED.

Throughout the day I have upper right abdominal discomfort. It's not a pain so what else could it be?

Throughout the day I have upper right abdominal discomfort. It's not a pain so what else could it be?

After eating?: You may have gallbladder dysfunction with or without having gallstones. If avoiding fat in your diet helps, it may be the gallbladder. If eating makes it worse... Then it may be the gallbladder. An ultrasound may find stones. A scan we call the hida can demonstrate the function and test if the pain is coming from the gallbladder. May be worth pursuing. Some people may have nausea alone.
