Your pain could be due to overuse injuries to your adductor (groin) muscles, and your it band (outside part of hip/side of leg)
your groin pain could also be due to an injury to the bumper inside your hip called the labrum.

Arthritis frequently hurts at night. One problem is that many people talk about the hip but point to their buttock. That is not hip pain but back pain. So the answer depends on examining and figuring out where it actually hurts.
