Pain: You may have a muscular strain or sprain of the cervical muscles. I would try some moist heat and an anti inflammatory such as Aleeve 400mg once a day with food.

Try this...: Does the pain stay in 1 place, or does or move to hand or fingers? If to the finger, then possible nerve pain, but I doubt you have that. Did you have an injury? If so, that should heal with warm heat, light activity & OTC pain med (like ibuprofen or acetaminophen). Are you a serious couch potato? Then muscle weakness & poor posture are factors, & core strengthening exercises should be added. OK?

Inspissated.: Inspissated pore is one with thick discharge in the skin; it can have an offensive odor. An additional possibility is a sebaceous cyst which is draining. It would be helpful to see a dermatologist for treatment. Sometimes it can be drained (inspissated pore); sometimes it requires surgical excision (sebaceous cyst).

Neck strain: Try Naproxen twice daily and Tylenol (acetaminophen) four times daily for a couple of days. If not improving, find an inexpensive chiropractor and go for only a few visits. If no improvement after that, see your regular doctor. If there was no associated injury, l doubt it's disc related and mist likely a severe muscle spasm pinching a nerve. Could benefit from trigger point injections from doctor.

Muscle Attachment: There is a strong system of muscles surrounding and supporting the neck. Any head trauma likely involves some neck trauma as well. Nearby neck muscles engage to protect the spine, and thus may create some soreness at sites away from the main area of injury or trauma.

My neck hurts on top of my spine and upwards to the back of my head, sometimes very severe and the last time I was nauseous?

My neck hurts on top of my spine and upwards to the back of my head, sometimes very severe and the last time I was nauseous?

Neck hurts: This sounds like you are having a pinched nerve. There is a nerve that comes out of the spine at the top of the neck and turns up to give sensation to the scalp on the back of the head. This nerve can be pinched by the bone spurs of arthritis or disc problems. See your doctor to get it evaluated.

I have a pea sized hard painless immovable nodule at bottom of neck along right side of top of spine. It's been there for years? Any thoughts or sugg

Probably b9 nodule: If you've had this for years and it has never caused you pain or discomfort, most likely it is a benign nodule. Unless it changes in size, color, firmness, or starts to cause pain or symptoms, it should not worry you. You have more important things in life to keep on your mind. If it truly worries you, see a general surgeon about getting a biopsy - they'll remove it & tell you what it is (fibrosis

How do I get rid of a bump at base of my neck near the top of spine?

T1 spinous process: That is a normal anatomic landmark that unfortunately is the spot that all cervical joint pain is referred to. I would recommend evaluation with imaging to determine where the pain originates in the cervical spine. Cortisone shots in a facet joint could cure this pain.

Lumps: Wonder if you have cysts? If it is huge and painful it may be infected. Wonder also about abscess. Bottom line is that it may need incision and drainage.

Same size: A lipoma shouldn't fluctuate in size unless there is associated intermittent bleeding or fluid collection within it that comes and goes. Cysts and abscesses which are not solid growths, may fluctuate in size.

2 docs have said I def have a lipoma exactly top of spine/base neck. Still worried I have cancer. Are they easy to diagnose by touch + by its position?

2 docs have said I def have a lipoma exactly top of spine/base neck. Still worried I have cancer. Are they easy to diagnose by touch + by its position?

Usually: Lipomas have a characteristic soft and somewhat mobile feel on exam. They don't change much over time. Cancer doing this would be unusual and your doctors are likely correct in their conclusion. Ultrasound of lipomas can show a rounded fatty area or nothing (with the lipoma blending into the surrounding fat). Sometimes ultrasound is done when patients feel they need further evidence of noncancer.
