Nerve irritation: This sounds like an irritation of the L5 nerve root or distal peroneal nerve. Check back with your surgeon. Re-imaging with MRI or myelogram, or electrophysiological workup (EMG) may be helpful to pinpoint the problem. They may start you on Neurontin or Lyrica medication which reduces nerve pain. Short course of steroids (cortisone) may help but will slow down your fusion. ...Read more

Causes to consider for multiple pain sites include infections, (like lyme) and inflammatory problems. Get second opinion: It is hard to account for an elevated ANA and ESR with flat feet. You don't say how positive the ANA is or how elevated the ESR is. If it is a low positive ANA and mildly elevated esr, the tests may have no importance. Orthotics should help flat feet. ...Read more
