My left arm spin and sleep while I have pain in my right thigh just above my knee. My left arm mostly sleeps in the nights. What could it be?
Paresthesiae: When you're sleeping and your shoulders are sloping and relaxed, the nerves leaving your neck and going into your left arm become impinged causing parasthesiae (pins and needles sensation). This is relieved by changing your position. There should be no connection between this and your right thigh pain which could be related to knee problems. See an orthopedic surgeon for an evaluation. Extreme lower outer thigh pain 11d post op l knee arthro-mpfl repair &removal of osteochondral piece-severe swelling, hard to bend 3mth since injury?
Pain @ 11d is common: When fluid and swelling are present in the knee, you will usually see it on outer part of thigh. If a tourniquet was used it can also cause residual but temporary pain in thigh. If the surgeon did a lateral release that also causes pain on outer thigh. If pain is severe you should have your doctor examine to make sure there is not an infection or determine if fluid needs to be removed from knee. Read more
Pain right at the bend of the knee, medial, slightly behind the knee and inner thigh pain. Feels like a tendon might snap when running. Any ideas?
Stop if hurts.: Pain is a sign that something is wrong. Continuing any activity that is causing pain can worsen the pain and the damage. Some pain is expected with training as muscles strengthen and endurance improves but new pain means something else. Unless we are getting millions as pro athletes, don't risk damage. Get checked to see if all's well or not and how to avoid future pain. Read more
Had lateral release 4 months ago, still have extreme pain in thigh area above knee/swelling of muscle area?
Follow up with doc: This obviously is not normal. I recommend you follow-up with your surgeon or get a 2nd opinion. I suspect you likely have associated osteoarthritis and a lateral release is not very helpful for that. Other structures inside/outside the joint need to be evaluated. Don't suffer, seek more help! Fractured my l3-l5 in my lower back a few years ago. Still not healed and still have back pain. Can that cause aching pain in thigh, knees and ankle?
Stretching needed: If there is pain and tightness to outer side (lateral) knee as well as the thigh, this may be a tight iliotibial band (ITB); when it affects function at the knee its called ITB syndrome. Stretching of the lateral thigh and knee, and the use of a foam roller or massage here can help. Tightness of the hamstrings can also cause some lower back pain.
