Not serious: If your ribs started to hurt after exercise and you can touch the part that hurts and reproduce the pain then you can be confident that it is an injury to the ribs and or the muscles that attach to them. This will almost always take care if it's self. It takes longer then you would like. Heat and tylenol, (acetaminophen) aleve or Motrin will help. If you are short of breath or the pain is severe see your doctor. ...Read more
I'm getting constant pain on my upper right chest. The pain increases at times when I'm laying in bed or sitting. I'm not sure what is causing this.
I don't have your: age with this question. If you are older, the possibilities could be more serious. The fact that the pain is positional--worse with lying down--is more reassuring that it is something musculoskeletal: strained intercostal (between the ribs) muscles or cartilage inflammation. No cough:unlikely pneumonia. Not short of breath: unlikely blood clot. Do recommend you see your Doc for evaluation/diagnosis ...Read more

I have a sweet taste in my mouth when i cough, a strange thud like feeling in my chest when i exhale, and a sharp pain in my upper right chest?
Costochondritis: The sweet taste is difficult to explain. The pain in the chest with breathing is probably costochondritis . This is due to an inflammation of the chest wall after a virus or a common cold. It is usually self limited and responds to Motrin 800 mg 3 times a day with food. If it does not improve over the next few days get a chest X-ray to rule out a walking pneumonia. Good luck and feel better. ...Read more

Muscle spasm: You made a great diagnosis. Yes some muscle spasm can go from the front of the chest around to the back. Costochondritis: This could be just inflammation at the sternoclavicular joint or costochondritis (inflammation at the ribs), both of which typically will resolve with conservative treatment.
