Chew: First i would recommend chewing your food more carefully to prevent this problem. There is not much to do to treat the problem but wait and let the body take care of itself. Esophagus?: Could be an esophageal spasm, or a large hiatal hernia, known as a paraesophageal hernia. These can be diagnosed with upper GI contrast xray, and esophageal manometry. Pin after meals: Most likely the culprit is the stomach itself. Either an ulcer or just hyperacidity can cause such pain which gets better once the food passes further.
