Thinking of internal issues, is there a history of constipation, lactose intolerance, inflammatory bowel disease? Meckel's diverticulu: There is a concept called referred pain. Pain felt at the belly button could be generated anywhere in his gut from just outside of his stomach to his mid-transverse colon-in other words, not very specific location. Very Unlikely: If your son had an umbilical (belly button) hernia, there would be a bump at the belly button that was soft and squishy. These do not commonly cause pain.
