Ankle pain: I'm sorry your dad is having pain. X-rays will sometimes miss a fracture. How is his range of motion? Able to flex/extend? Able to bear weight? Full history and exam indicated. Any hardware in there from a previous fracture? Conservatively you can ice 20 minutes 4 times a day, wrap in an ace. Rest in the early stage would B a clue, & also when running if U start out ok initially, the distance 2 pain becomes shorter, eventually it hurts right away. If images R done early, may= neg.
