Can fallen arches cause pain in talus? My elderly dad has pain on the top of his foot near talus. He had an x-ray; no fracture.
Ankle pain: I'm sorry your dad is having pain. X-rays will sometimes miss a fracture. How is his range of motion? Able to flex/extend? Able to bear weight? Full history and exam indicated. Any hardware in there from a previous fracture? Conservatively you can ice 20 minutes 4 times a day, wrap in an ace. Get into C an ortho: Bing new 2 running U may have started 2fast 2long of runs, & could lead 2 a stress fracture of the talus. Rest in the early stage would B a clue, & also when running if U start out ok initially, the distance 2 pain becomes shorter, eventually it hurts right away. If images R done early, may= neg. Well....: A shattered talus is a pretty significant injury. One of the well known risks of talar fractures is aseptic necrosis (the bone literally rots) because of a compromised blood flow to the bone after the injury. Go back to your treating doctor and get re-evaluated asap, and stay off it until you know what's going on down there. ...Read more

Without seeing the X-rays and examining your leg/ankle it is not possible to say.
