What can cause sudden, moderate to severe right-sided chest pain? It is worse with taking a deep breath and gets worse after pressing on my chest. It hurts along my sternum and in the middle beneath my breast. The left side does not hurt.

R/O PLEURITIS: PLEURITIS=inflammation of the lining of the lung and Pericarditis = inflammation of the lining of the heart can both cause referred shoulder pain. As well as a PE=Lung blood clot. As: As a rule of thumb I feel that all patients with retrosternal pain (pain behind the sternum) should have their cardiovascular system evaluated before considering the problem orthopedic related. I bet costochondral: Seems like you may have some costochondral pain (pain in the joints of your chest). It could much less likely be something in your chest or lung but you have definitive testing in the near future. Pulmonary function testing will likely confirm what you already know. Chest pain: At your age group, I doubt that your chest pain is related to your heart. I sm also worried that you are labeling your self as having Angina. Most likely your chest pain is due to muscle sourness or inflammation. This can be treated with Anti inflam drugs.
