Rib out: From an osteopathic standpoint, you may have coughed a rib out of place. Over time it may return to normal but an osteopathic physician who specializes in manipulation may be able to help you. If you continue to cough, you will need to find the source.

I get a pain on right side of chest when I cough?

Costochondritis: A very common reason for chest pain associated with coughing is inflammation of the cartilage where the ribs attach to the breast bone called costochondritis. It can also be caused by an inflammation of the pleura which is the tissue which covers the lung and called pleurisy. If it continues you should check in with your doctor.

Likely not serious: Many people strain the muscles and/or the ligaments in the chest with severe coughing. If your cough and/or your pain persists, it is advisable to see your primary care doctor to have this further investigated.

Had productive cough that is better now. Still have pain in right side of chest I feel with movement, breathing and laying down & not getting better.

Chest pain and cough: First, as you might imagine, stop smoking. Second, an upper respiratory infection may affect the lung tissue itself, but also the covering of the lung--pleura. If that gets inflamed it may be one focal are of the chest and is usually associated with even the movement of breathing or other movement. It's treated with Motrin or advil (ibuprofen) and should go away. If not, a chest x-ray and exam is in order.

URI: I commend you for being “Non-smoker” Your symptoms are likely due to upper respiratory tract infection. Other possible causes at your age can be Asthma, Allergy, or Bronchitis. At this time, symptoms are not severe. It will be beneficial to see Physician for Diagnosis and management.

I have tight pain on my right side of chest when deep breath or cough sneez... Pain is going down to my right side of my back and side of body?

Costochondritis: Your pain is likely due to inflammation of the rib cage. If it is worse with deep on deep inhalation, this is likely. You can try an antiinflammatory like Motrin or naprosyn (naproxen). It takes a few days to improve. If the pain is exertional or goes down the arm may be a heart issue see your internist if no change in a few days. Good luck!

Right side chest: Possibilities include some esophageal dysfunction, bronchial or lung pathology or even tension of muscles in the rib cage. If symptoms persist your physician will take a thorough history, examine you with special attention to the rib cage and lungs. Appropriate tests will be ordered and possibly a referral to a gastroenterologist will be made.

Yes, but look deeper: Perhaps, but you need to dig deeper. Look for a physician who performs multifunction cardiography : https://www. Google. Com/search? Q=multifunction+cardiogram&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&hl=en&client=safari#itp=open0.

Likely a virus: It's probably a virus, although pneumonia/bronchitis or other bacterial infection (sinus infection, strep throat) is not out of the question. Other possibilities include an inflamed rib muscle or a muscle pull from coughing. I'd definitely see your doctor about it.

Sharp stabbing pain left side of chest 1-2 ribs below breast. Started yesterday. Noticed some small swelling today that is sensitive to touch. Hurts to breathe, raise left arm, bend, twist, cough, laugh. 36 y/o male. Was driving when it hit suddenly and

Go see ur FamilyDoc: Sensitivity to touch makes me think of zoster/shingles (http://goo. Gl/TaqS6s). Without that, I think of pleurisy which could due to pneumonia. Perhaps you overdid one of your upper body exercise routines (although this shouldn't usually cause pleurisy or painful breathing). Bottom line, you need to see your Family Doc for complete & thorough evaluation.

I have a small lump, upper right side of chest. Coughing, couldn'tcatch my breath sometimes. Is this pneumonia or bronchitis?

I have a small lump, upper right side of chest. Coughing, couldn'tcatch my breath sometimes. Is this pneumonia or bronchitis?

2 separate issues: Neither pneumonia nor bronchitis would cause a "lump" on the outer chest wall. Coughing and trouble breathing can be related to asthma. Coughing up thick, pus mucus with associated fever and chills suggests pneumonia. Bronchitis is an infection in the large bronchi. A chest x-ray would help differentiate some of these conditions. A physical exam is necessary to assess the "lump.".
