Questionable: I am unclear what exactly you mean by a swelling in the lower back as that is unlikely to happen. It is very normal to have discomfort in your hips, pelvis and low back at near 36 weeks. You should start seeing your obstetrician weekly now and should be getting frequent cervical checks. Discuss your concerns with your doctor and have him/her check out your back at your next visit. ...Read more

I'm trying to stay active and fit but am getting some pain in my lower back and right hip possibly from the exercise. Suggestions?

I'm trying to stay active and fit but am getting some pain in my lower back and right hip possibly from the exercise. Suggestions?

Stop that activity!: You won't hear it too often from doctors telling you to stop exercising but if a specific activity causes pain, then stop doing it! that doesn't mean stop all exercise altogether. By all means keep doing other things that don't bring on pain but give that specific area a chance to rest & heal. Ice is also good for injuries. Go see your doc if you're no better in 7-10 days or if worsening sympto. ...Read more

I have severe pain in my lower back, hip, groin and upperthigh and it is worse on the right side. It feels very muscular now and it is hard to walk. It has been going on for many months. What should I do?

Hip pain: Back problems can give you thigh and hip pain and hip problems can give you back and leg problems. From you description i would be worried that this is coming from your hip joint. Best thing is a complete history and physical examination to help direct further eval such as x-rays. I would start with you primary care giver or see a sports trained physician, a physical med doctor or ortho surgeon. ...Read more
