It: It is difficult to give you a solid answer without history and exam. You have not indicated your age, and the activity that created the problem. Since there is no trauma the most common problem for pain on the outside of the elbow would be a tennis elbow or lateral epicondilitis. If this is the area of pain try icing, over the counter analgesics, and resting. A simple test is to try to lift something with your palm up vs your palm down. If lifting with your palm down causes pain and this is not tender lifting with your palm up the problem is the epicondylitis. If you have any bruising or pain on the front part of the elbow another possibility would be an avulsion of the biceps. If that is the case seek care asap as it would need a surgical repair. This opinion is no substitute for a medical encouter. Consult your doctor for a full assessment. Read more

Probably unrelated: If your elbow never hurt at the time of the injury, your current pain is likely unrelated to the accident three years ago. Based on the quality and severity I would seek attention if your pain persists. Read more

I am unable to fully extend arm, sometimes elbow pain too. Please help?

See md: From your history pain and the inability to fully extend your elbow for a period of time suggests bone spurs in the back of the elbow and/ or loose bodies (olecranon fossa). This is esp. Common in pitchers and other overhead athletes (in college and professional pitchers it is termed valgus extension overload-veos).If it is transient and u are not a ' thrower' u may have synovitis... I fell on my left side weeks ago and hurt my arm and I'm still unable to extend my elbow without severe pain?

Ligament injury: I ma presuming you have had Xrays of the arm taken and no fracture was detected? If so, ligament/cartilage injury can cause inflammatory response with pain after such injuries, that can last several weeks.

Pl use heat or water aerobics which usually help in such cases, besides OTC anti-inflammatory agents. Read more

I hit my elbow rather hard on the wall. It put me to tears. But I shook it off and now my elbow hurts to touch. I can extend arm. Should I wait?

Well!: As long as u have full pom & it is painless u may have olecronon bursitis. This would present as a fluid filled sack @ the tip of the elbow. U should b cn by an orthopedic surgeon 4 eval, xam & x- rays 2 b sure. If this is what u have some may aspirate & inject with steroids. If there's any abrasion or cut over the area there is a chance of infection. Increase in pain swelling & pain report right. Read more

Elbow. I: Of course but proper term is nerve impingement or crowding. All 3 nerves to hand- ulcer, radial and median nerve pass thru elbow. So consult family dr. Or neurologist. You can be tested with EMG and nc (nerve conduction) studies to determine which nerve is involved. Nerves have 3 functions- sensation to bone, skin but most importaint is motor power-makes muscles work. Is forearm smaller than o. Read more

I keep feeling something in my upper arm pop every time I forcefully extend my elbow. What could be causing this. The pain is closer to the shoulder?

Dislocation possible: I would follow with an orthopedist to examine your arm. If the pop is closer to the shoulder you may have a dislocation, labrum tear, instability or rotator cuff injury. Read more

You: You could try simple measures such as over-the-counter medication, like Ibuprofen or aleve; however, it seems to me that it might be worth your while to seek additional input from your primary care physician. Three weeks is a rather lengthy time to have persistent loss of motion of the elbow. Read more

When I extend my right arm, it feels like my main vein is being stretched or pulled. It bulges out a little too. This is on the inside of my elbow.

Not to worry: Veins are very flexible, and it's not going to damage a vein by using the full normal range of motion of the elbow. Nerves have a lot more resistance to tension though and can be stretched to the point of sending pain signals as is the case with sciatica in the leg. Tendons and ligaments also can be stretched to the point of causing pain which improves with gently progressive stretching exercises. Read more

I fell on my arm while riding my bike today, I can move my wrist and fingers just fine, but my elbow. I can't extend it fully or touch my shoulders.

I fell on my arm while riding my bike today, I can move my wrist and fingers just fine, but my elbow. I can't extend it fully or touch my shoulders.

Get an Xray: It is not normal to be unable to fully move your elbow after just a bruise. You should have an Xray to see if there is a broken bone. If you do, it will not heal by itself, and you should see a doctor. Read more
