Horrible sharp pain in leg. Inside of right leg. Comes and goes. Only lasts a few seconds. No other symptoms. Not swollen, not warm. Could it be dvt?

Leg pain: The pain you describe is not typical for dvt, it sounds more like a musculoskeletal symptom. Having said that, one can't be sure what's going on from out here and it would be a safer course to see your dr. And get checked. ...Read more

I was diagnosed with bfs normal emg only minor fasciculations and symptoms are twich spread random and legs pain can it be als?

Unlikely : The diagnosis of bfs is a diagnosis of exclusion. If you have been diagnosed with bfs then ALS should have been ruled out. The two are unrelated and one does not develop into the other. It does not mean you can't develop ALS like at equal probability as the general population. Is there is a significant change in symptoms reevaluation would be indicated. ...Read more

I suffer from extreme anxiety. I googled ALS symptoms because of my thigh twitching and now I'm worried because my legs feel fatigued. Anxiety do thi?

Hey, tough guy!: Everybody's thigh goes twitchy occasionally. I think it's from a nerve cell or two dying off the muscle getting extra-sensitive to circulating acetylcholine. Nobody knows or cares. If it's your tongue or if you're suddenly not keeping up in sports, you might worry. ALS isn't treatable anyway so it doesn't matter. Get on with your life. Best wishes. ...Read more

It sounds: Like your anxiety is getting the best of you. There is a normal exam, you are young and probably right-handed, still without motor deficits. This has been extrapolated into death by als. It's not, but talk to psychiatrist, make sure you are sleeping ok. Good luck. ...Read more

M/20. Had feelings of heaviness and altered sensation in left leg for a year now, off and on. I'm scared of als. Seen a nuero and my gp that said nothing is wrong. But what could this be? My anxiety?

It seems that: You need to consider talking with a psychologist. Anxiety can lead to physical complaints. Here's a blog that explains how some people take things out on their bodies. Sometimes the symptoms ; language associated to the symptoms are clues to the causes. http://wakeupanddreamcatalyst.blogspot.com/2014/03/tuesdays-psychology-tips-do-you-take.html. ...Read more

Male 20 yrs old. Left leg has felt weird for a year. I'm terrified its als, but I went to a neurologist 1 week ago and he said everything looked okay.

Other issues: I would not think at 20, after assessment by neurologist, and isolated single limb parasthesias would be als. There are many causes and ALS is one of the more rare causes. You could have back issues that are mildy irritating a nerve that may be giving you these feelings. Do you have any close family members with als? Any history of continuous head injuries? If no to both of these, less likely. ...Read more

Twitching body wide mainly in legs for 19 months. Clean EMG(just fascias) at 12 months. Clean clinical at 15 months. Am I now in clear regarding ALS?

Twitching: I can't comment on your ALS probability but your neurologist can. I can say that muscle twitches can be related to low magnesium levels. Please see a nutritionist or naturally-oriented physician. He/she can test your magnesium level and suggest supplementation. Jigsaw brand magnesium is a good brand if available. Too much of some types can cause the runs. Peace and good health. ...Read more

Clean EMG: Is very helpful. Generally ALS will have a markedly abnormal EMG with lower motor neuron denervation. There will also be clinical evidence of denervation. Myokymia is a nuisance but not dangerous. Thanks for trusting HealthTap! ...Read more

ALS fear. Have muscle twitches random and intermittent more so in leg.no weakness.w/o weakness is this probably nothing?do the twitches precede ALS?

Fasciculations: Involving the tongue in addition to limb muscles would be more typical of ALS. The development of both upper motor neuron and lower motor neuron signs and symptoms is also an important feature of ALS. Upper motor neuron symptoms include increased muscle tone, spasticity, increased reflexes and pathological reflexes (up going toe sign) Lower MN sign include atrophy, decreased tone and reflexes. ...Read more

In my case I'm 22, I have twitching n jerking in somebody muscle, left leg and arm feal weak on and off, could that mean ALS, what's the %?

<1% chance of ALS.: It is common for people to experience muscle twitching phenomena. Be healthy, eat right, exercise, & do not worry. In the early stages amyotrophic lateral sclerosis presents with increasing weakness in one limb, usually a hand. Fasciculations (twitching muscle fibers) are usually subtle. Then speech & swallowing difficulties are seen, as is difficulty walking. Still worried? Your MD can do a test. ...Read more

Muscle spasms legs, feet and side back come and go, mild but noticeable. Had for 1 month. Is it MS, ALS will I get paralysed?

No: Someone has been reading too many medical horror stories. It is mega highly unlikely that spasms in an otherwise healthy 20 year old represent anything but overuse or electrolyte disturbance. The diseases you mention generally do not begin like that. See your family doc for an evaluation and reassurance of the correct diagnosis, so you can get this problem resolved. ...Read more

I was diagnosed with pls. I do have muscle atrophy in both legs. What's the diff between upper motor neuron dominant ALS and pls?

I was diagnosed with pls. I do have muscle atrophy in both legs. What's the diff between upper motor neuron dominant ALS and pls?

PLS versus ALS: Primary lateral sclerosis (pls) is a rare cause of spasticity without muscle atrophy (no loss of spinal motor neurons). Extensive atrophy should not occur with pls, but reduced activity by itself can cause some atrophy. Als involves both upper motor neurons (causing spasticity) and lower motor neurons, causing atrophy. Pls has little effect on life span, hereditary spastic paraparesis can mimic. ...Read more

22 year old male having some hand cramps and leg cramps, can it be ALS? It does not run in my family by the way?

Cramps: Can be caused by many conditions (electrolyte imbalance is probably the most common). Once can see muscle cramps at some stages of ALS but this disorder is quite uncommon and would more likely present with weakness initially. Ask your doctor to have a look at you and if the diagnosis is not revealed with an exam and simple blood tests by all means seek the opinion of a neurologist regarding ALS ...Read more
