Multiple causes: There is no age listed which could help a bit in differentiating cardiac pain from muscle ache. I think no matter what you should see a doctor get a chest x ray as well these can come from a number of causes. I don't have chest pain in my left side really. I've had more pain in my right side than on the left. It's just a discomfort that goes from the left side of the chest to my armpit and it feels like something is in there.

Your description is: not typical for cardiac issues and your young age would argue against this as well however there are quite a few potential diagnoses both life threatening and or benign that could explain your symptoms.
