Muscular strain?: You do not give an age or type of exercise that you do. This may be related to athletic activity or some martial arts. If you have strained this area it can be quite painful See the doctor and have the doc help you figure out what is going on. Best wishes.

I have back pain on the left side just above my hip inside the back, if I turn my body/sit down/lie down it hurts, its getting worse. What is it?

Hip or back pain: Back problems can give you hip pain and hip problems can give you back pain. Probably not enough information here to help you know what the cause is. How long has it been present? What makes it worse? Better? Does it go down into your leg? Any fever, chills, weight loss? Any bowel or bladder problems?

Why is my poo yellow and watery? It has only just come on and I have minor pain in the left side just above my hip?

Couple thoughts...: If this is new, it could mean you have gastroenteritis - which is an illness caused from a virus or a bacteria. Sometimes drastic changes in the diet can cause this as well. If you're having increasing pain in your belly, blood in your stools, or fevers, make sure you get checked out by your doc sooner rather than later.

JHS & IBS: 20's female with hip region pain and abdominal gurgling and cramping might have Joint Hypermobility Syndrome (JHS) with sacroiliac joint subluxation aroused by certain bio mechanical forces that are positional. Inherited loose ligaments of JHS are possible. JHS is highly associated with fibromyalgia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Colon: Are there bowel changes or bloating with your discomfort? The colon might get irritated or inflamed such as in diverticulitis or there could be a gas build up. For recurrent, steady or worsening symptoms have your physician examine you.

Not enough info!: Sorry, we need more information. What kind of pain (sharp, dull, crampy, constant)? How long have you had it? What treatment has been tried? Does it hurt with movement or not? Need exam: You will need to have a hands on exam to make an accurate DX. It prob is just a muscle strain, but the only way to reassure you that it is nothing else is to have an exam. Till then, stop the exercise that is causing the pain, and use some warm moist heat to the area for about 15 min 4 times per day.

What should be done? My fiance is getting the taste of blood in his mouth and on his left side just above the hip he is getting a pain that goes from a 4 (on a scale of 1-10) to a 9. He says it feels like someone is stabbing him. What should he do?

I: I am not sure what is causing this constellation of symptoms. From the description, I am wondering if this is in ther area of the kidney (which can present with abdominal, genital or back pain) I am answering this 3 days after you wrote in. Is he having pain with urination, blood in urine, cloudy urine? If he having constipation or diarrhea? Nausea or vomiting. Since writing in, has the pain worsened or resolved?

Lower back pain in left side and left hip the pain and comes when bending on that side. The pain also shoots down in my left leg as well it hurts bad?

Back pain: Pain shooting down the leg is likely sciatica likely from a pinched nerve in your lower back. It would be worthwhile to see a neurologist or neurosurgeon for a further evaluation.

53 year old male, active runner. I had pain in left side of hip followed by lower back pain now returned to hip and also left knee. Any advice?

Hip pain: Please see your doctor to rule out medical conditions. Look into running shoes that may be a better match for your body and level of running. Be sure to stretch before and after workouts. Peace and good health.
