What would cause numbness from elbow to wrist on the right arm and pain under right shoulder blade?
Pain in right arm from where joint is down right arm. Can't move arm certain ways. Weakness in hand. No injury started suddenly. Hurts to move arm.
Rt Arm Pain & Weak: Sometimes pathology in your neck can cause symptoms like this out of the blue (disc bulges or protrusions). Stenosis (narrowing around the nerves) can do this but usually see this in much older patients. Nerves that appear to be involved in your hand are C6, C7, & C8. If you meant shoulder joint down, then C5 may be an issue too. UCC or ER can prescribe Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack. See if arm gets going. ...Read more

Two considerations: You might possess pinching of nerve in neck, cervical radiculopathy, and if arm is raised, you might feel less symptoms. Or, you could have thoracic outlet syndrome, and if arm is elevated, you will have more intense symptoms. One additional caveat, make sure that your pain is not of cardiac origin. Cervical HNP: Arm pain in young patients radiating from the back or neck, suggests disc herniation. This is most likely. Osteosarcoma is most common around the knee, humerus, pelvis and jaw. Pinched nerve - neck: Sounds like you have a pinched nerve in your neck and you need to get an MRI of the c-spine. Depending on the results it might be just short term that gets better spontaneously, or somthing that might need an epidural steroid injection or something that might require surgery. Intrinsic shoulder : Joint problem, such as rotator cuff tear or frozen shoulder joint may be present. The numbness could be indeed "shoulder hand syndrome" or maybe brachial plexus issue associated with the shoulder pain. Perhaps a parsonage turner syndrome or even a thoracic outlet syndrome if symptoms worsen on arm elevation. However, sounds like a mix of joint and plexus.
