Possible Carpal Tun: There are other possibilities, but the most likely cause for your symptoms is carpal tunnel syndrome. This is the result of compression of the median nerves at the wrists and it is common for people to wake up to "shake out the numbness." I would recommend that you see a neurologist, but while you are waiting you can ice the wrists, try otc ibuprofen, and buy carpal tunnel splints for nighttime. Read more

Neck problems: It is very possible that the root if your numbness, tingling and lack of strength of upper extremities and hands is on the neck. High and hard pillows may exacerbate it while in bed. Make a consult to a chiropractor or medical doctor regarding your neck contracture and pain. Use a soft pillow or none at all. Relax your neck when you work at the office, using a tall seat whenever possible. Read more

Recommended treatment is warm compress for the hematoma and contrast compress (hot and cold) for nerve injury. Prescription topical creams and therapy may be helpful. Symptoms usually resolve spontaneously, but tis can take u to a year. See a hand surgeon for an eval. Read more
