Pain in interphalangeal joint of big toe a few weeks but playing soccer last night the pain has increased significantly. Hurts to walk on it. Help?

Stop playing: Soccer and see a podiatrist for x-rays. It is possible it is something like a capsulitis or synovitis of the capsule that envelopes the toe joint. (think sprain). A fracture should also be ruled out. Inflammation of the extensor hallucis longus tendon is another concern.
You need to stop playing until this is healed.
The toe should likely be wrapped until you can see the doctor to prevent motion. ...Read more

Help doctors! What're volar plate and dorsal plate with reference to metatarsophalangeal and interphalangeal joints please?

However, volar plate, or more commonly called the plantar plate, can be used to describe the fibrocartilagenous structures of the metatarsal phalangeal and interphalangeal joints located in the feet as well. I am not familiar with the term dorsal plate other than distal radius fixation in the wrist. ...Read more

Can't figure out these symptoms Non-exertional chest pain, cold hands, unilateral swollen interphalangeal thumb joint w/o trauma, dyspnea on awakening?

Think rheumatic dz: Definitely confusing! Nontraumatic IP joint swelling, especially in the thumb, brings to mind rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A common complication of RA is costochondritis which affects the rib joints (chest pain) & a variant called Caplan's Syndrome leads to lung nodules. Other autoimmune diseases may mimic RA (lupus?) but testing by a Rheumatologist may sort things out for u. Good Luck! Thanx 4 ur Q ...Read more

What would cause pain in the distal joint of both middle fingers? No swelling.

What would cause pain in the distal joint of both middle fingers? No swelling.

Joint pain: Although there are some chronic arthritic problems that may affect someone your age, the first thing I would think about is whether you are doing something repetitive with those fingers that is causing a chronic irritation. Over the counter anti-inflammatory medications or Tylenol (acetaminophen) can be used for this. If the pain persists for more than 2-3 weeks, develop swelling and redness, see your doctor. ...Read more

Dyshidrosis always seems to occur on same spot, same finger in winter. I don't wear rings. Middle finger, distal joint. Skin cracks. Why same spot?
