Midline hernia: If you look at the cover of a "bodybuilder" mag you will see the person stretching and observe a line down the middle top to bottom from just below the ribs to the top of the pelvis. Umbilical pain: Can be reflux from acid or H pylori and may respond to maalox or ranitidine or prevecid. For H pylori need antibiotics to completely clear. See a urologist.: Voiding at night can be a source of significant bother, especially if 4-5 times nightly. A urologist can assess why this might be happening, & suggest ways to improve his symptoms. Tenderness of the abdomen could be any number of things: a distended bladder, an infection, or a rare abnormality called patent urachus. ? hernia: It is possible you are describing an umbilical hernia, a trapped bit of tissue through an internal hole in the belly button. If there was a piercing there it is also possible there is a cyst or an old infection. It would be worth seeing a doctor to have this evaluated. Read more

Omphalitis: This occurs among people with very deep navels [persistent urachus] who have hairy skin on the abdomen. The hairs have tiny barbs on the sides which causes them to all line up inside the umbilicus where they slowly penetrate into the skin.
