See your doctor: It is difficult to localize the lesion without both understanding the history of the discomfort, nor an examination which can help determine any other associated signs/symptoms. Because of where the muscles and the nerves traverse along the leg, it could be a variety of things. Please consult with your doctor for further evaluation. ...Read more
Heel spur on back of foot &below back of foot. Achilles tendinitis visible bump on the side opposite of the ankle. Been years. Pains unbearable. Help?
Sick Achilles.: Your comments sound like the findings of a previous x-ray exam. I'm not sure what is meant by "bump on the opposite side of the ankle". If it is in the Achilles tendon, then extreme pain, could make sense. It sounds as though there is something amiss with your Achilles tendon. It would make sense to immobilize the ankle, and begin non-weight bearing until tendon imaging studies can be performed ...Read more

Pain tingling in calf and pain in arch of foot. Numbness in Achilles. Slight swelling at base of calf muscle in right leg. Any ideas what's wrong?
Calf pain: can be several things: 1. tingling and numbness usually represent nerve pain - the sural nerve runs behind the calf muscle and could be pinched 2. the pain in the arch could be tednonitis - the posterior tibial tendon - when injured it can cause deep calf soreness and arch pain especially behind the ankle area. 3. tarsal tunnel syndrome I would suggest you see a Podiatrist or Foot & Ankle doctor ...Read more
Toes bend backwards and the arch of the foot twists, ankle becomes rigid and swells at line of ligament, can't walk. Restless leg syndrome?
Doubt it: This sounds more like carpo-pedal spasm, or more simply "charley horses." the muscles of the ankle and wrist are prone to these problems, which can come on spontaneously for no reason, or can be associated with excessive muscle activity in exercise without adequate stretching, as well as too low a level of either potassium, calcium or magnesium in the blood. If it is recurrent, see your doctor. ...Read more

Burning pain above heel. Swelling beneath outer ankle. Pain increases when walkin especially on incomes or stairs. Heaviness and leg weakness to hip?
Problems linked?: Heaviness of the leg and hip weakness may be due to a back problem (L 3-4). This would not cause pain in the ankle (local process if there truly is some swelling) I would have the muscle CPK checked (on statin drug) the weakness in the legs is typically symmetrical if due to statin drugs but can be noticed on one side initially. If these problems persist you will need to be examined. ...Read more

Need an evaluation: You have a knee Ed fusion, and swelling in the back is a Baker cyst, and that is compressing on certain structures. There are other things I can mimic this. You need to have imaging, and evaluation, fluid removed from the knee, and a good idea of what the internal structural problems that may be compressing the nerve or vascular structures in the back of the knee ...Read more
