Yes!: Chest pain after a car accident could represent skeletal injury (rib fractures, sternal fracture) or cardiac injury (blunt cardiac injury, myocardial ischemia). If you are having other symptoms, see your nearest emergency department. If this is isolated to just your chest and its reproducible with pushing on your sternum (i.e., breast bone), it's likely skeletal and can be managed with meds. ...Read more

Why is the first thing pain docs do is judge ppl in pain n not help but act rude happens to my mom! She's in pain after major car accident hate them?
Be careful not to: Over-generalize from one bad experience. Your mom needs to ask her primary care doctor for a referral to a different pain management specialist. Sometimes attorneys pressure these doctors to "spin" their records in a way that makes the doctor uncomfortable; sometimes it"s just a communication problem. If she feels her treatment was inappropriate, contact the state board of medical examiners. ...Read more

Hello, I have an Injury to my knee replacement. Swelling, pain instability. From car accident 2 days ago. Any thoughts on avoiding another surgery?
See your Orthopedist: Once a joint replacement is in, the bone is thin around that site. A smaller amount of trauma might crack (break) that thin bone. When you have continued pain after injury, go get more tests to see if that could have happened. The ER could do the test, but your "Bone Dr." should be consulted. ...Read more

The deltoid is controlled by the axillary nerve. There is the small possibility that the shot was placed close enough to the axillary nerve or into the axillary nerve for it to stop working. Rare -- but can happen. I would get an EMG and ortho evaluation.
I do not think the prior comment on adhesive capsulitis is correct. It is a different mechanism of injury for that. ...Read more

Both can help: These medications are in 2 different classes. Naproxen is an NSAID and hydrocodone is an opioid and probably also has tylenol. If you don't have major kidney disease or stomach ulcers, Naproxen should be the safer of the 2. If inadequate, hydrocodone can be added until no longer needed. Use all meds as directed and carefully note all sources of acetaminophen/tylenol-3000mg/day max! ...Read more

I am 32 weeks pregnant and am having horrible sciataca and back pain from a car accident a few years ago. I took a 30mg oxycontin that I still had from an old prescription. I'm wondering if this will effect my baby or any drug test that may be administere
Yes, it will: Pregnancy causes many changes in the body and can both be a source of new back pain and aggravate existing back pain. Opiate pain medication will pass directly into your baby's blood, and regular use in pregnancy can actually cause addiction and a withdrawal syndrome in the child, so opiates are not a preferred pain med in pregnancy. Your obstetrician or primary doc has other ways to help. ...Read more

PMR: I would recommend conservative care initially, either a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor (pm;r) who can do gentle strretching and adjustments such as sacroiliac joint mobilization. Aquatic therapy /decompression may also help. If the pain radiates down the leg, you may need to see a pain mangement specialist, who can perform an injection without xray if a herniated disc is suspected. ...Read more
