See a sports med doc: Knee injuries are pretty common in jiu jitsu! Sometimes the knee gets twisted in ways it wasn't meant to (heel hooks actually tear the knee not the ankle!) and leg locks hyperextend the knee. If you are injured during training, swallow your pride and sit out for the rest of the class. That puts a strain on a healing knee is not wise! You may try "dynamic tension" that's tightening your thigh (quadriceps) and loosening it without moving your knee!

Remember: Even after meniscal (cartilage) surgeries of the knee, patient often can resume squatting.
