Hi there, I have a vein or artery sticking out in my palm near my thumb and it is painful but there is no discouloration nor warmness.

Probably not a clot: It is almost certainly not an artery but palm veins sometimes are prominent. If it is not hard to the touch then you probably don't have a blood clot, which is relatively rare there anyway. It could be an inflammation of the vein (phlebitis) or perhaps it's the underlying tissues that are irritated. If it persists more than a week or two, then your family doctor can help diagnose the problem. ...Read more

When I write for long periods of time a vein the middle of my thumb shows up & throbs. Would I hurt it more by continuing writing or should I stop?

Your body is. ..: ... your friend. When it "speaks" to you, you should listen. It may not do permanent damage to continue writing but it very likely may get more painful and contribute to an overuse syndrome. The pain might then continue even after you stop to rest. Try to manage your schedule so your writing periods are briefer with significant breaks in between. Stay well:) ...Read more

I cut my thumb with a little knife but it was a little cut but I cut it on my veins I think, I can't see things clearly and hear, what's happened?

Should be looked at: If a person cuts himself but has poor vision, he needs to get somebody else to look at it to see if the cut needs stitches. Usually, if the cut is doesn't go through the first layer of skin (about the thickness of a coin), it should heal up by itself. A little deeper than that means it may need to be stitched or glued back together. ...Read more

More info needed: It is very unlikely that you are truly experiencing a "vibrating vein" there is such a thing but not in this location. That would be called a fistula. Is it possible to pinch a vein shut? The vein in my thumb was smashed. It is now bright blue, hard an raised. It is making my whole hand tingle.

Nah. It ain't so Joe: You caused a nice big BRUISE by whacking the thumb but it's not a vein or anything like that...it's the swelling and accumulation of fluids including blood. If it's causing tingling in the hand then, you should have it looked at right away. It may need decompression otherwise, you could have nerve damage that's permanent from the accumulated pressure that's not being released. Ice down a lot. ...Read more

My vein on the outside of my left index finger hurt when gently touched. No redness, but my vein is really visible. Mild swelling....btwn my thumb too?

Phlebitis: Supeficial one. Usually resolves with local treatment of the inflammation with warm compresses and anti-inflammatory medications such as advil or aleve (naproxen). Having said that I would like also to tell you that sometimes superficial phlebitis can be associated with deep vein thrombophlebitis which is dangerous. So, see your doctor for a medical evaluation. ...Read more

Spasm / twitch in vein through left thumb from wrist. Been happening for a week. Slight intermittent pangs of pain. Unsure if dehydrated or if there’s a blockage or impingement?

Not vein: Localized spasms in the extremities are common. It has nothing to do with your vein or artery. A blockage to the vein would result in swelling. A blockage of the artery would result in pain and ischemia to the thumb. You are likely correct in assuming some electrolyte imbalance and or dehydration. ...Read more

Green isn't natural: A green color of blood vessels isn't expected from normal human biological processes. It might be something in the skin such as biliverdin, a breakdown product of hemoglobin processing, and representing one stage of bruising. With some pain in movement, you should consult with a practitioner knowleable about hand and/or skin problems. ...Read more

What might be the cause of pain in a small non swollen vein in right hand between thumb and first finger?

What might be the cause of pain in a small non swollen vein in right hand between thumb and first finger?

Likely muscle/joint: If there is no swelling of the vein or associated redness, this is unlikely to be a vascular source of discomfort. The area between your thumb & first finger can become sore from prolonged movements like grasping, pulling or holding something, esp if repeatedly. Often discomfort doesn't peak for 24-48 hours after such activity. Try to limit such movements to see if improves. ...Read more

Injury: For traumatic bleeding, rest the hand, applying cold intermittently for 48 hours and then switching to heat will help absorb blood products. NSAIDS like ibuprofen reduce inflammation. However if pain and/or swelling persist, consult a hand surgeon for evaluation and treatment. ...Read more

A white bump like pimple growing and painful to the touch is on my thumb's pad? It looks like an eye with an eyeball in the middle protruding out?

Splinter?: This is a strange complaint Mariam, and difficult to evaluate without a photo or being able to touch. You may need to consider getting a prime consult or seeing a clinic. The tenderness sounds like an infection, the whiteness a collection of pus. The eyeball??? well, my best guess is possibly a splinter or a bite. It probably won't get better without being drained, but put warm compress on it. ...Read more

Raised artery/vein on anterior side of right wrist below thumb. Structure is fully visible and so are the contractions. Non visible on left wrist.

Veins are visible...: ...on many parts of the body; many are near the joints. If you see pulsations, it's probably not from the vein itself but from the artery underneath it. Healthy, muscular men with sparse body fat % have particularly noticeable veins. Swelling, pain, tenderness & redness of a vein may indicate superficial thrombophlebitis, a condition for which I recommend medical attention. ...Read more

Get evaluated: At 16 this sounds a bit like more than tendonitis, and suggestive of a rdheumatoid pdroblem. You need an evaluation by ortho or rheumatology to detrermine what is occurdring. Sometimes it is overuse, but the symptoms are similar to several different diagnoses. ...Read more
