May be meniscus tear: Usually a sharp pain with certain activities such as twisting / bending may be a meniscus tear. If you have mechanical symptoms such as locking and catching it would be a good idea to see an orthopedic surgeon who can examine you better. If you had an injury then an MRI may be indicated as well. A hands on exam would be needed to evaluate this. Thanks! ...Read more

Several: Pain in back of knee traveling down leg w/ no injury mechanism in your age could be several things. If it worsens or continues, get examined. Cysts can start in back of knee and as they " leak" fluid can cause discomfort down leg;calf ( gatroc)muscle strains can cause pain down leg( even though u feel its not muscle)as well as a nerve irritation(. I can put full weight on my leg only when I bend it I get this pinching pain at the back of my knee and lower thigh. Still no swelling. Only been a day since I fell on it. Will it get better over time? What if going to a doctor isn't an option?

Ice down- then, heat: Ice it down twice daily until the knee freezes (20-30 minutes). Within next 24-48 hrs. switch from ice to warm compresses. I don't understand why seeing a doctor is "not an option"....usually in every major metropolitan city there is a way to see a doctor even if you have no insurance. You could solicit a private consultation here on this network....very inexpensive compared to private doctor. ...Read more
